The Vin-Jet is a standard Chinese "long ribbon / short path" mic and uses the same basic ribbon motor as the Shinybox and Apex 205. I can't speak to any other similarities or difference between the Vin-Jet and ShinyBox. But in terms of differences to my mod'd Apex 205... The Vin-Jet ships with the s...

Re: Mics mods vs buying modded mics - price difference?

I'm looking to expand my mic locker as economically as possible. So when I ran into an Apex mic package that includes a 205, 185 and a 415 for $250 (average $85/mic) I though this was a great idea. Each of these mics are stellar candidates for mods so I started calculating a total bill for the init...

thanks once again Kingmetal for the kind words. re: KM 84 / 184 comparisons - here's some more info...The "Ultimate mod'd" 603 is very close to the KM 184 while my mod'd MK-012 is very close to the KM 84. That is, the former is a bit brighter while the later is closer to flat on top. Folks can hear ...

Well, the distributor is in Aalen, Germany. But Oktava mics are made in Tula, Russia.

As promised, here's my take on the CAD CM217 mic. Yes indeed. You can get two of them for $50. The each come packed in a little box inserted into their mic stand clip. They are electret condenser mics and use the common Panasonic-type cardioid capsules. They have a bass roll-off and 10dB pad. Sound?...

I've always wondered if the CAD CM217 is an electret condenser (fairly high noise floor) or if it is a true, externally polarized condenser. I just ordered a couple and will report back.

Points taken and no criticism heard. It is my goal to offer new, high performance mics at attractive price points. There are some out there now - AT mics get a lot of love for example. But it seems many mics are built to hit a certain price, rather than performance point so some compromises have to ...

you guys have some good ideas. a lot of it over my price range... Which pieces? You can't do better than a couple of $49, 22mm SDC for OH. Want to get rid of the 8kHz peak in these mics but don't want to pay for a mod. Easy - use a screwdriver, wire cutters and file to rip out all the vent slats. T...

... vox rode nt1 or shure beta 87a (great sounding handheld) ... Now this is one of the things I love about gear forums - diversity of opinion. See, i think the stock NT1 is like a spike to the ear with its exacerbated sibilance. But other people hear this as "bright and airy". I missed my calling ...

Re: Chinese Condensers (and other cheap mics) what do you th

hey guys. I am trying to set up a "C" room studio at my studio (more like an "F" room), just to do mostly live demos of songs for pre pre-production and band's super fast demos (including my own). What I want are 8 (cheap) mics: 1- Kick 2- Snare 3- Overhead L 4- Overhear R 5- Bass 6- Guitar 7- Guit...

The finish feels like smooth epoxy paint to the hand, but the body is aluminum. I've got a back of aluminum sweepings from doing a bunch of these on my milling machine.

Now the NT1000...talk about heavy mic made out of thick brass!

The NT1 mics I've done have aluminum bodies. The results look like the NT1a mod here.
