Think your math is a little fuzzy. With 24 in and 14 out, you're only using 14 full I/O pairs with an additional 10 inputs with no related outputs. Ack, I think the problem is how I'm saying it... hard to express in words. I think you got it though: I'm using 24 inputs (actually, occasionally 26 wh...

Important question (for me, anyway): is it 32 outputs AND 32 inputs that can be used simultaneously? Or just 32 inputs and/or outputs total? I ask because I own 24 channels of Tango 24s. Right now in Cubase, I record up to 24 tracks (full band sessions) while simultaneously using 14 outputs (six ste...

Yeah, I talked with Darren at Vintage King. He told me they don't do outside service work (perhaps they did at one time, but not anymore). He did recommend I contact Advanced in Troy. I may go that route, although I was hoping to find an independent tech to work with - someone I could throw addition...

Two words: Ikea Ringum. No need to say anything about "staying on your mark". Just casually drop one of these in front of the vocal mic while setting up the session... http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70141493 Again, I've found I don't need to say anything when I do this. Usually, the visu...

[Michigan] Amek 9098 repair in Ann Arbor/Detroit?

My Amek Neve 9098 dual mic amplifier is on the fritz. This is the 2 channel 1U mic preamp from the mid-'90s. Power light goes on, but no signal and none of the other buttons work (they don't light up when pushed). Any ideas where I can get this repaired locally? Could be a fuze thing, but it's out o...

Meathands, I, too, thought you were talking about the bass on "Tusk" (because, well, that's what the thread subject says!). You might want to change it from: Bass sound on "Tusk" to read: Bass sound on "Angel" (From TUSK) Anyway. Love this thread. I too really dig the two Micks/Mcs. (And the bass to...

Vintage Sennheiser 424's? Nice shape, mellow & forward. Mids & highs are something else. What else? They were a high-end phone. Not for everyone, but everything for someone... Great for acoustic music & classical/jazz. Replacement foam (how I got them), which is common with these. (Pic is not mine; ...

Ugh, heartsick. I remember back in the '80s feeling like my friend Jeff and I were the only ones in the world who knew Big Star (of course, not true), and feeling special. Right around that time I found out about the Chris Bell solo disc, etc. and it was the beginning of a lifelong membership in the...

First Vic Chessnut, and now this news... it so heartbreaking to lose someone to suicide. Especially hard and poignant when they are a musician or artist whose work was touched by that same sadness, beautifully expressed. I wish something could be done, anything, to prevent the way this so often seem...

There's a great story that illustrates his talent as well as sense of humor... He was playing on an Elvis Costello session, finished doing a perfect one-take bass overdub track, and Elvis said he thought the track was "too perfect." He asked T-Bone if he could play it again, but "a little less pro-...

Ok, that post was invaluable. Thanks very kindly. Incidentally, after leaving it all on for 45 minutes, the problem has returned. So it's definitely a ghost in the machine. I will try all these suggestions tomorrow. Hopefully, this post will be helpful for others... btw, I don't recall ever plugging...

Argh... it's intermittent! I just plugged the whole thing in again; same exact signal path - and it's not doing it.

What gives... the Gear Gods are not smiling on Aj today, it seems.

Shit, now I'm a little worried. I'm still going to crack this thing open and take pictures. I'll post back what I find. But I'm just not comfortable around tube power stuff - it's usually where I draw the line. I guess today I'm moving the line...

Shoddy construction means that the cable can sometimes short when not inserted properly. Well, I didn't unplug/replug the mic cable back in between sessions, and it worked last session. So I don't think it's that. Also, some of the PSU cases on these mics are not properly grounded - they have earth...
