I still use Tango 24 converters... really like them. For a product that's 10 years old (an eternity in converter tech!), they still do the trick. In fact I have three of them, acquired one by one. Like the original poster, I paid $750.00 new for the first one back in 2000. The other two I added over...

I'm guessing they make something on all those great books (hardcovers). But - kind of like you - I don't think anyone's getting rich on it. It's just something they want to do.

I know this isn't what you're asking, but there is a magazine about cooking that my wife and I always joke is her "TapeOp." It's called Cook's Illustrated, and it's really amazing that it even exists (kind of like TapeOp) - clearly it's a labor of love for the editor/writers, and the articles, recip...

Continuing to listen to "Whatever Happened..." here as we all bust our grief out (anger is the second stage of grief honkyjonk; go ahead, let it out). Seriously, download his last album, T'OPers, if you haven't already... link is in my previous above post. It's like a modern day Oar (Skip Spence). Aj

Yeah, I didn't mention the proposed Firewire 3200 spec, etc... it's kind of a can of worms at the moment. But you're right; it's still worth talking about. You never know what could happen. That said... I doubt Firewire is going to survive the switchover to USB SuperSpeed. Sadly, I think Firewire is...

Regarding Firewire vs. USB (2.0) vs. what the future holds... This issue came up in another thread recently, and I've copied what I posted below. The upshot is that the we're definitely starting to hear Firewire's swan song being sung, and USB 3.0 is where all us pro audio folks are most likely head...

Ok, before we get too excited... this has all the earmarks of a classic urban legend making yet another appearance. The basic gist is - in order to extract revenge, spurned lover places classified ad to sell unfaithful boy or girlfriend's prized possession at unbelievably low price. Sometimes it's a...

Trying to Break Your Heart

Thanks for posting this. If anyone's interested, Jay Bennett's final (?) solo album is available for free download here: http://rockproper.com/jay-bennett/whatever-happened-i-apologize.html If you're up to the aural challenge, it's just a devastating listen. Particularly the song "Without the Benefi...

The explanation for our frustration

Nice to see this discussion still active (I'm the original poster). Since this thread started, I've done a bunch more research and STILL HAVEN'T bought a thing. But I have finally learned in detail why this cluster#@ is happening. Basically, this is a terrible time for anyone to buy a laptop for pro...

Eventually they will. Mark my words. Even if it takes 10 years, I do believe we'll see that happen some day.

I know this may come off as heresy to some purists, but I was personally floored by the sonics of the recent Love soundtrack. Not talking about the mash-up stuff, but just the overall sound quality. Yes, it was 'modernized' - more lows, wider soundfield, that sort of thing (sort of; still had a vint...

And in Allen Park?!?!

Quick, someone send in a team of social scientists and a film crew to document the fascinating culture shock of Hollywood meeting the real rust belt. Seriously. Could almost be a reality TV show.
