Re: Acoustic Panels (DIY? Cheap?)

The way to do this for real is spectacularly unfun: you cut strips of drywall to fit in between the joists, leaving a small gap on either side, which you then caulk. You do multiple layers of this, because effective soundproofing requires mass, and drywall is the cheapest mass you can buy. You reall...

Re: shedshrine build 3.0 - furniture, cats, gear, enlightenment, and yer mom, man

The previous pic was just one my friend found online somewhere, not his actual guitar. That headstock is just....what committee of dunces approved that? it looks like a cheese slicer. So goofy. I haven't really played it yet, needs new strings and a setup. Initial thoughts, just holding it: it's rel...

Re: 703 faced vs unfaced

You get better low freq absorption with the faced side out (and it reflects some highs), so do that for corner traps. You only want one facing, so if you're sandwiching two pieces together, take the facing off the back piece. Take it off slowly so you don't pull a bunch of the 703 off with it. Not t...

How's that finger doing?

The goofball Charvel showed up:

Haven't done anything with it yet, but it looks pretty.

I got my little guitar corner organized:

Yeah seriously. Don't go crazy with MLV or whatever in a space you're only going to be in for a year.

Ah shit! It had to be the left hand didn't it? You could still play power chords...

New gold guy looks nice! They all look nice. I'm still in love with that amber dk, I so do not need one but I really want one.

Looks like the same neck as my new tele, you are gonna love it.

Re: shedshrine build 3.0 - furniture, cats, gear, enlightenment, and yer mom, man

I think you should just have your floor done in Jackson Pollack splatter style so you can play anything unimpeded. Hahaha, that might not quite be the relaxing minimalist vibe we like for mastering, but I could do it! This is my masterpiece: http://oldcolonymastering.com/art.html That first video y...

Re: shedshrine build 3.0 - furniture, cats, gear, enlightenment, and yer mom, man

Well? :D It's REALLY nice. Super light. All the body contouring makes such a difference, it's so much more comfortable to play than my actual tele. Neck is buttery smooth, just great. It came with 9s, I played it like that for about 2 minutes then put 10s on it and did a basic setup. I've mostly ju...

Yeah, just to echo roscoe, make your treatments portable. That's good advice for anyone. A lot of my 703 sheets are almost 18 years old now.

one of the advantages to the GoM is that I believe it is fire-retardant. in a commercial environment, that can be really important (or required by law).
Yes. Very good point!

Re: Fabric for bass traps/absorbers

The GoM fabric...you'd have to be a millionaire.

I got the fabric for my place either from a local shop or here:

The microsuede looks really nice IMO. Not cheap but still less than the GoM.

Re: Are the loudness wars over?

And also the streaming services normalize everything down to ~ -14lufs, so there's really no reason to make your record absurdly loud anymore (not that there really was before). I feel like I'm mastering things about the same level I always have, and these days it's pretty rare that anyone asks for ...
