Re: Ultimate Small Summing Mixer Solution??? ALL PROS CHECK
yeah, from my limited time with it, the TL tube tracker definitely added some 'analog goodness' compared to mixing in the box. routing-wise it's not very flexible though, there's no assigning anything to the 2 buss, all the channels are routed there automatically...makes any kind of dub mixing prett...

Re: tracking levels in digital recording
i think apropos is right. if yr working in 24 bit you don't need to worry about getting everything right up to zero. there is TONS of info about this online, i direct you to nika's forum on PSW, george massenburg's forum on musicplayer.com and lynn fuston's forum at 3daudioinc.com. put on a pot of c...

Re: distorting the vocal
yeah you're right. i knew someone would call me on that :) last time i recorded a singer thru the mini marshall, we'd tried a bunch of takes with a clean mic first and it just wasn't happening. plugged the marshall in and he stepped right up. but it was a pain trying to make that work in the mix bec...

Re: Blasphemy
if someone could explain to me how lars could be a PROFESSIONAL drummer for TWO DECADES, playing THOUSANDS of shows, and still not be able to throw down some competant drums in the studio, i'd really appreciate itsoundguy wrote: The Balls!

Re: syncing analog and digital -- please advise
If you record a click track or basic rhythm track to your computer and then layer in all of the backing parts, you could also patch that through the headphone system in the studio and have the whole band play along with the computer while recording the instruments to tape and transferring the compu...

Re: RNP: Are you kidding?!
Yes, the Ei's made it sound a little less wooly, a little cleaner. I've heard of the McGuire guy, I need to go and check the usenet posts. just do a google search for him and the info should come right up. if you can't find it or are just feeling lazy this weekend :D i have it saved at work and wil...

Re: distorting the vocal
yet another vote for the mini marshall. that thing sounds way better than it has any right to. great for drum loops too, and hell, it even sounds good on guitars! for vocals, i'd recommend saving it for mix. every singer i've worked with who wanted distorted vox, they want WAY more distortion than i...

Re: syncing analog and digital -- please advise
hey, i'm totally guessing here, so please take with lots of salt.... the way you suggested won't work because the dat or cdr rough mix won't have any relation (absolute time-wise) to the 2". if you take the rough mix, dump it into yr computer at home, and overdub away, how are you gonna get those ov...

Re: Blasphemy
dave, thanks! really. it's most entertaining. on the subject of lars and co., i just recorded with a guy who worked with them on 'reload'. said lars drum tech would play some of the parts when he wasn't there, and that they had three (!) protools guys there cutting that shit together. the balls inde...

our guitar player has a sovtek mig 60 which sounds amazing. records well too. i think he got it for something stupid like $150. beefier and less 'raspy' than most marshalls i've heard. still a believer in the elusive 'magic' marshalls though, they're out there....
