Yeah, you can find great deals on G5s right now. People seem to be dumping them to go with the Mac Pro. I would spend the extra money and get a G5 with a few gigs of memory.

MOTU 896 Crash???

My MOTU 896 is not responding. When I turn it on, the clock indicator is just flashing and the computer doesn't recognize it. I run it with a Black Lion Audio Microclock, but when I unplug that, nothing happens. Has anybody had anything like this happen before??

When you buy a new Mac, it asks you right up front if you want to start from scratch or copy your old Mac. You just plug your G4 into your iMac, start it up in firewire mode and it will basically copy your whole system over. It takes about an hour or more, but you'll have a clone of your old compute...

OK, I will cut out the middle of the back of each bass trap. It shouldn't be a big deal. Thanks a lot for all the info!

I think I could cut out the middle of the plywood like you suggest without taking the whole thing apart. I will give this a shot if you think it will help.

Really? The plywood is only about 1/4" thick. I got the thinnest plywood I could find just to give it a rigid back. Does the wave get absorbed by passing through and bouncing back in?

So we ended up using 5.5" thick Ultratouch cotton batts with a plywood back to make 2X6' bass traps, and Owens Corning 703 2X4s with soundboard back for hanging panels. We didn't need to make frames, we just wrapped each panel tight with burlap stapled to the back. However, we did have the strap the...

Hey, sounds good. I didn't know that LaCie uses Seagates, that's helpful. I figure buying stuff from Apple is like taking your car to the dealer for maintenence, a total ripoff.

Thanks guys.

Internal Hard Drive Question

Hi, I want to put a second hard drive in my G5 for recording. I'm wondering what people's opinions are about different HD brands. I know LaCie is the preferred choice for external HDs, but what about internal HDs? I've been recording to a 160GB hard drive in a firewire enclosure for years. I'm not e...

I replied to this in another thread, but seriously, CD Man. They are less expensive than any plant in the States, and they are FAST. They will also do 500 CDs. If this is your first CD, I highly recommend you start by pressing 500. Unless you have distribution, and/or tour like crazy, you will end u...

Yeah, CDMan is the absolute best. They're the only company I've found that does 500 CDs for a really good price. Most companies won't press less than 1000, and if they do, they charge way too much for it. They are in Vancouver, Canada, but don't let that stop you. Every project I've done with them c...

Couldn't I just nail, staple, or glue the stuff to plywood or cardboard and hang it?

For bass traps, would you recommed cutting it into triangular wedges, stacking and placing them in the corner, or just putting flat panels diagonally with space behind?
