or you could just back off the mic a bit. bright mics work well from distance i find, as long as the room sounds nice. screen mods, as i understand it, tend to deal with really HF stuff, prevent smearing there. as only the HF material bounces around those cages. i really didnt hear that much of a di...

right out of the gate, 1a sounded crazy peaky to me. like OUCH. 1b sounded smoother. but then when i listened back and forth, the difference seemed less dramatic. i think i was just SHOCKED at first listen. basically, for solo acoustic i would probably never use a mic like this. but i could see this...

Clearly we'd all like to stay analog. not me. i really love analog synths, but i don't see why staying analog should be a defacto priority. at the moment, i've been digging the sounds from FM and additive way more than subtractive anyway. sure analog filters are great, but man, i just don't see the...

i've actually been digging the logic built in compressor for that task lately. in "platinum" curve, it has a very, uh, digital fakey kinda curve that makes a nice sounding punch for the attack. but barring that, an 1176 type is something that i usually would use, like the stillwell rocket. for satur...

saturation gets you there. creates overtones that can be heard on shitty systems. lots of compressors will do that for you. i'll generally do a medium attack fast release kinda compressor on there to add some attack. and that compressor usually adds some overtones. but there are like millions of exa...

Do you have a convolution reverb? I use perfect space, pristine space's little brother, and with the right IR I like it better than the UAD 140. There are so many good IRs out there, my primary verb is almost always from an IR. that, and also once your convolution library grows, and you get used to...

Music : It is a language. Spoken well, it communicates something from the musician to the listener. What gets communicated is subjective to both the musician and the listener. There are as many meanings to be had from music as there are stars in the Universe. The best musicians know how to speak th...

just listened to that first track, very nice stuff. you certainly aren't hurting yourself in your recording. its indeed a tad vanilla in the mixing, but thats not true of the arrangement. so yea, if you want to push the textures a bit (and i can see this going both ways), i would lean to space/time ...

post processing, your options are pretty wide right now. i would say, spend a good day or two getting a buncha free plugs. load up an old song. try them all out, make notes, sort. keep your favorites. there are so many great free/cheap plugs right now that i think the biggest problem is sorting them...
