As a bass player, I was definitely guilty of this. It's a mix of aggressive playing and sub-optimal action and/or pickup height. The balance can be skewed in either direction, even to the exclusion of the other, in my experience. The other problem - the REAL problem, I think - is that we (bass playe...

TOM WAITS I'll just add EVERY RECORDING RELEASED BEFORE ANYONE HEARD OF ANTARES. There are plenty of HUGE hits from the 60's-90's featuring some pitchy vocals or melody instruments. It didn't matter then because the performances were good and the songs were catchy. Listen with your ears and your he...

Mbox 3 Pro - "hardware not detected"

Hi all - Deciding it was time to upgrade from my Mbox mini, I purchased an Mbox 3 Pro a couple of weeks ago. So far, all attempts to get any of my computers to see it have failed. All computers are PCs, are well above spec for PTLE 8.04 (I have been running PT on two of them for years, and the newer...

Re: Better than SM58 for vocals but not too sensitive?

Another caveat to keep in mind is that the sphere of sensitivity is around 20' for a condenser mic and around 5' for a dynamic. Therefore, your super or hypercardioid mic should be a dynamic. Assuming gain settings for equal output, no difference in "depth of pickup" between condensor and dynamic. ...

The economical solution is racquet balls. You'll need to build a platform incorporating them, but it's probably still far cheaper than those shock-absorbing feet that are marketed toward DJs. I've used this method a bunch, and it was suggested to me by LTJ Bukem, who like LOTS of bass on stage. For ...

I mix for a living. If you plug a distortion pedal into my PA I will hurt you. No, you won't. So will any engineer with any sense of pride in thier work. No, we won't. Plug that mic into a guitar amp and get it howling and moaning real nice... Then I can mic it up AND give you a good level in your ...

Sometimes I'll have the kick drum key a gated sine wave at 34-40Hz to add some 808 balls. Similar effect I think, and pretty easy to do.

I toured with their support this Summer - there are a few racks full of synths/samplers as well as a few MBPs sidestage, but yeah, it's the CP70. Sounds like they slipped a mic in there too, similar to the way some folks mic the strings of an electric guitar. Side note: super-nice guys, great musici...

Well, not from the back - there's a fairly prominent lobe there, being a hypercardioid and all.

Of course! A ribbon is, by nature, a dynamic element. The +48vDC is used to power the head amp.
