I would use GarageBand for all of it. It can be super simple, or relatively deep, depending on how you use it. And, there are tons of loops available. Then, maybe consider Logic for the advanced kids who are really looking to dig deeper.

Pirate this!!

My band is releasing our next (Double A Side) single via the "art installation" format. How fucking pretentious is that?!?! ;)

It's really frustrating to find out who the client wanted to sound exactly like, after the session, just because they were too proud to admit that they wanted to sound like another band.

There are typically very slight differences between the internal latency of any two different converters. It doesn't matter if they're connected via ADAT or SPDIF or AES or Firewire.... Using two different converters will result in slightly (very slightly, talking milliseconds) different latency bet...

Maybe. Do any of those go for $3000 in 2013?

You should make an XLR patchbay for your mic signals and preamp inputs. Then, use a TRS patchbay for your inserts and compressors. Alternatively, and probably better, you could just add inputs for your external preamps to your wall plate in the tracking room and then just have the preamp outputs on ...

The Flaming Lips' manager is making a fortune operating what amounts to a "rock and roll" program at an accredited university here. He's realized that selling music to fans is a losing proposition. Now, he's just selling dreams and lies to musicians and making a ton of money. What a guy!

checkout the Antelope Orion 32. 32 channels through USB 2.0. It really works. I had one (search for another thread) and the only reason I let it go was I could not get latency low enough with my setup and Pro Tools 9 (on Win 7). If you are using a Rosetta w/Firewire today then I don't think it will...

What is it with so many audio electronics guys and these unbearably arrogant egos and epic internet flameouts?!?! I'm lucky to have some good local guys to work on my gear. I'd hate to have to rely on audio message boards for finding a good tech. Jim is one of the most highly respected techs in the ...

Here we go... Bow up, old man. Scott's not trying to hide behind a fake user name. He's just been participating in this community since long before it was common practice to use your real name. It's no secret who he is. So, what difference does it make now that you know his name is Scott? What now?

But he knows a metal head when he sees one, based on the bruises on their foreheads. Typically advice based on that kind of first-hand informed expertise would cost you at least $35. I bet he's as well-versed in metal guitar tones as he is in tact and charm. And, c'mon guys.... Everyone knows that t...
