Free 1" tape and/or broken peavey bass cab in NYC!

9 reels of mostly Ampex 456 on pancakes. Used only once supposedly. Peavey 1810 cabinet, speakers all crapped out except the one 10" I'm keeping. If you have a use for this, I don't. All free. Or a few bucks if you really want to. Pick up only in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I can maybe deliver in NYC fo...

Re: Hear Ye Altec 1567a Users

I just substituted some not so great 12ax7s with the tesla/jj ECC83s from Triode electronics. I think its a big improvement at least from what I had. Different pre though, so I don't know if that applies here...No problem with microphonics either.

How about $40? I really need to get these out of here this week...
I think only one of these is 3m...the rest should be ampex 456 judging by the boxes.

9 Ampex/ 3m pancakes 1" FS in nyc

I have 9 "one pass" pancakes of 1" tape. Most of them are 456, but at least one is 3m. I just had to put a lot of money into fixing my machine, so I don't really want to mess with reels used by someone else. I'd prefer someone who can pick these up in Brooklyn. They're heavy and shipping will be exp...

Re: AKG D112 question

If you don't want to track down an akg clip, try one of the spring-loaded clamp type clips. They work with really small mics. I've also been using rubbery sm-57 type clips with 421s lately -- looks kinda half-assed but it holds ok and beats $40 for a sennheiser clip...

Help! Tape tension problems on a Tascam ms-16

I have a problem with my ms-16 -- Occasionally the speed shifts for a second, resulting in pitch shifting that is obviously a problem for recording. I think I have a bit of a problem with tape tension but I don't know what adjustment to make. Every time this happens, the tension arms jerk a little b...

Re: _____real problem with a reel to reel______

Exact same thing happened to me a while back on my 388. With me it was the fuses and I guess that's a common problem. Try double checking. If you just sight checked them in the machine, try pulling them out -- its really hard to see that its blown without doing this. Hopefully that's all the problem...

Tascam 388 Studio 8 (1/4" 8-track/mixer combo) FS in NY

I am selling my tascam 388...It's in good working condition--only known problem is that one of the balanced outs doesn't work right (unbalanced are ok). A few pots (on the eq) are a bit scratchy. Otherwise works and sounds great. Cosmetically, it is good -- issues would be chipping on the bottom lef...

WTB: Tascam dx-8ds noise reduction for ms-16

I'm looking for a set (2 units - 16 channels) of these. Unfortunately I missed out on the unit on ebay last week. If you have any you don't use or need, email me the price at kakumei47@hotmail.com. Thanks!

Re: converters on consumer CD Burner

if you're looking for alternatives, i would avoid philips burners -- i've had two and both have had problems. both would sometimes begin a new track by themselves and one started only accepting philips brand cdrs after a while. that could be my luck though. i've had decent luck with the teac cd22. i...

Re: Changing speed on Tascam MS-16. Anyone know how to do th

Thanks for the info and the link! Do you know how to tell if it is the stock 30 ips model (from the jumpers maybe?)? The documentation I got with it is for the 15ips version, but that isn't reliable. I bought mine secondhand already set to 30 and was unaware that a 30ips model was built. I'll let yo...

Re: Changing speed on Tascam MS-16. Anyone know how to do th

You can't switch from high to low on the front. There is speed variation (plus or minus 50% maybe), but its zeroed at 30ips now. There's another way to do it other than the speed control...

Changing speed on Tascam MS-16. Anyone know how to do this?

I have a MS-16 set to 30ips but I want to switch it back to 15. I can't find any help online or in the maintenence manual (maybe it's too early a version?). I have alignment tape for 15ips, but no idea how do do the internal switching. Can anyone explain how this is done? Thanks!

Re: Experience w/ UPS claims/ small claims court?

I sold a synth once that I thought was very well packed and the buyer contacted me saying the housing had been smashed in shipping. We had UPS pick it up but they denied the claim and sent it back to me totally destroyed. Their reasoning for the denial was insufficient packaging. The buyer admitted ...

WTB: Korg ms-series synth chip...help!?

I am looking for a particular IC chip for my MS-20. These usually don't go bad and they're a pain to find. Do you have any parts, a dead machine, or know of a good tech (NYC area) or parts source?
thanks!!
