Re: Maximizing room mic effect (amps)

So the close mic is panned off to the left and its artificial ambience is panned right, then the room mic is panned right and its ambience is panned left. Obviously it won't ...

Re: Maximizing room mic effect (amps)

How reflective is the room?

You might want to point it at a corner, or the ceiling, or a wall instead of the source.

Re: Servicing AT mics

So, small update:

I mailed out one of the two (4047) to see how I felt about the process. I sent it about 10 days ago, but I haven't heard anything from them yet.

Not mad or anything, but starting to wonder. Repairs on anything can be slow though, so the jury is totally still out.

Ah, an artistic snipe hunt over a 3bpm difference. Another quixotic hunt for perfection.

Re: Help: Matching Dynamic Mic to Preamp

Instead, a concept called bridging impedance is used. Here's the rough of it: ...... So just to make sure I'm understanding the helpful takeaways from a carefully written, detailed response: Raising impedance on the preamp (if adjustable, or using an intermediary device like the 'cloudlifter') is g...

Re: Sytek no longer making the MPX 4aii?

I used to have two MPX4aii, which was the only 'mid price' hardware step I ever took that I don't regret. Sold one when I got an API 3124, but I'll never sell the second. The other day I heard something I recorded on only those Sytek channels, and the pre is the farthest thing from the problem on th...

Re: Guidelines & Best practices for Vinyl masters?

I've had two people cut vinyl for me: Carl Saff (who's also a regular mastering engineer) and Aardvark Mastering (just lathe work). Both can be found online: Saff Mastering and Aardvark Mastering. My guess is a comedy record that sounds normal (no crazy peaks or dynamics which I'm sure you've alread...

Re: drum samples in heavy music: When did it begin????

I know for a fact he blended in a few on kick and snare on the newest full length. I know it doesn't really matter, but this disappoints me. I liked be able to point to him as a beacon of organic authenticity in a genre(s) filled with synthetic contrivances. The dude is a beast. That is still an ab...

No, that is helpful and part of the equation. They're not assholes, can't say that about all repair techs.

Servicing AT mics

So I know Audio Technica has its own service department where you can send them their stuff. I'm wondering if anyone on here has had experience with them. How fast? How expensive? I've been needing to send in my AT4047 for ages, and yesterday I found my 4033 was making gross sounds that would stop w...

Supposedly Converge's "All We Love We Leave Behind" has zero drum samples or amp sims.
I'm pretty sure Kurt Ballou has never used drum samples on any of those Converge records and they all sound AMAZING.

I have been weening myself off of gearslutz, and I came here to find a safe and sane place.
Oh no! That the second time I've triggered a GS comment this year. I need to keep my gear lust in check!

I've been convincing myself I need one (or two) over the last 6 months.

A Cascade fathead is a pretty good stand in while I save though.
