Cool idea Darlington! I'm a bit of newb, so sorry if this is a stupid question. But is it true that when using the direct out feature, the pres are functioning as a transformerless pre? But when using the mixing buss, they're using the transformer? The input transformer and amp are still active, bu...

I recently modded an M267 for a guy and I just clipped the high pass cap and wired where it is from the switch to a direct out on three of the channels. So now when the switch is in normal position everything goes to the bus, when the low cut is on it cuts it from the bus and only does the direct out.

ok cleaning the pots and the rotary switch seemed to help a lot. the eq is very responsive now. the transistor seemed to check out ok with the voltages across it and the solder joints on the caps are good. thanks a lot. also for future reference, how did you go about boosting the gain in your unit?...

First I would clean the notoriously easy to get dirty rotary head select switch. Then I would clean the eq pots. Then I would look around Q8 to make sure everything is ok, possibly a bad or bad solder on C70, that would certainly quiet down the effected signal. Recently I actually bumped up the gain...

If your 500 series rack has xlr outputs, you can put an inline attenuator of 10 or 20 dB right after it, with a small xlr cable, like 1-3 ft long. Cheers https://www.google.com/search?q=xlr+attenuator&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=com.yahoo:en-US:official&client=firefox I just built my own pads so I c...

Film caps aren't going to give you enough benefit in the power supply to be worth the cost, signal path is a different story. Good power supply practice is uses a low ESR electrolytic cap bypassed by a small film cap. Chances are in a Sta-Level you can almost double the values of your supply caps an...

Cool DP! Yeah, I'm not looking to MIDI the Mono just yet; I'm actually driving the Volca keys via an Alesis SR-16, then I go sync out from the Volca to sync in on the Monotribe and it locks just fine. I'd like some of those version 2 features though (S&H), and I'd love to have CV too... :( GJ If yo...

Hey Otto, The only computer I haven't tried is a Mac, although I did try the iPod. Three different PC's though, one a nearly brand new laptop. I've heard converting the file to .Wav format would do it, but that did nothing for me as well. GJ Mine came with version 2, I haven't tried the update that...

Well, I suppose to answer your initial question (which it seems we all may have strayed a bit from) and to also succinctly sum-up Carl's very thorough post, it might sound something like: "Give it enough level until it sounds good." While that may seem simplistic, I suppose that's really the answer...

Modding a DBX 3BX to be a compressor?
So I ended up with a 3BX Expander (1st generation with wood sides) and it's been nice for transferring 4 track stuff to the computer and a few other things, it can actually be abused to sound kinda nice. But, I got to thinking about all of the other DBX expanders from the same time period like the 1...

Just as a quick check for something unlikely but possible - measure the amp output with a DC voltmeter. Ideally have a speaker hooked up to sink any parasitic current. You're looking for problems with the amp producing constant DC, which is *not* something speakers will enjoy. If your speakers are ...

Oh, duh-- that is, I made the assumption that that is your website, but it might not be. So if you do know what's up with that particular Edison model, give me some insight! GJ No, it's not my website, it was just the first picture I found that looked like the models that I have. That edison player...
