Difference Between Stopping Sound and Absorbing Sound

So in thinking about ways to improve the acoustical treatment in my studio, i realized i don't really know the scientific difference between absorbing sound (fiberglass panels et al.) and stopping sound (Gobos with more mass). i am thinking about this mainly in context to creating some isolation bet...

WTB: 1/2" MRL Calibration Tape

looking to get a calibration tape for my Tascam 58, but i'm hoping to avoid dropping $200 on it. needs to be 1/2", 15ips, IEC equalization, multi-frequency (general purpose) if anyone has one they want to get rid of (or if anyone in the twin cities area has one they want to rent out to me for a few ...

Differences in Workflow Between Pro Tools LE vs. HD

sorry if this question has been done to death, but i couldn't find an old thread about it. i know that pro tools LE has some technical limitations (track count, etc) compared to HD, and is a native DAW (rather than using HD's TDM cards), but i'm wondering if there is much of a difference as far as w...

Issue with Homemade Cables for Monitors

So today i made two new cables for hooking my monitors up to my mixing board. the cables are XLR to RCA. i wired them like this: xlr + goes to RCA tip xlr - goes to RCA sleeve xlr 0 (ground) isn't connected to anything on the other end i got this from that big table of wiring instructions on the Ran...

10k outs then a 100k resistor on the input with a 100nano to the gate, drain to 9V, or 12 or 15, doesn't really matter, then a 2.2k -10k resistor to ground on the source and a 10uf cap to the reverb tank. That'll take your adequate line level output voltage and amp up the current with enough juice ...

picked up a pair of Dynaudio BM5a monitors yesterday. i went to guitar center purely for listening purposes (trying to decide between these and the adam a7s), and it turns out the dynaudios were on clearance. cool. also my MOTU 24i/o is currently at Black Lion Audio being modded (+ microclock). i'm ...

those schematics look helpful. might be a relatively simple way to dip my toes into the world of electronics building? i experimented more with the reverb tank today, and finally got it to be loud enough, but it involved sending the mixer aux out through channel one of my RNP, into the reverb tank, ...

i'm pretty sure about the 10k input impedance. i don't know why it's not listed on their site, but i asked before i bought it and they said the models with second digit "G" are 10k ohm input.

i just tried the aux out then back into a spare channel. i got it to be a little bit louder this way (with every possible knob turned to 10), but it's still almost inaudible compared to regular music playback. not really usable as an effect. i guess i'll have to keep testing out other setups (maybe ...

DIY Accutronics Spring Reverb Problem

So, as was being discussed in the "Let's Talk About Spring Reverb" thread, i ordered an Accutronics spring reverb tank (http://www.accutronicsreverb.com/Type9.htm) and tried hooking it up to my mixer as an effect insert, without any extra electronics in between (from channel1 effect send to input on...

it took me a couple tries to get everything setup right, but it is working like a charm so far.

coincidentally, today i mailed out my 24i/o to be modded at BLA, and i'm getting the micro clock too. looking forward to hearing the difference, even though i won't exactly be able to A/B stock vs. mod. i will let you know how i like it when i get it back in a couple weeks i guess.

Organizing Waves Plugins within Nuendo

couldn't find an old thread about this issue, sorry if it's a repeat... Is there a way to reorganize/group Waves plugins within a DAW (specifically Nuendo for me)? when i pull up the list of plugins, there is this whole slew of Waves plugins, all in alphabetical order. many never get used, but i don...
