I'm interested, not necessarily in a kit, but just sharing some information about how it was built, circuit design, etc. I've been wanting to build one for a while, although I might just do mono (for the time being at least). I've been reading the Rod Elliot page about the driver and recovery circui...

Short Mic Stand Recommendations
I'm getting sick of dealing with flimsy or broken mic stands, and I'm wondering if anyone knows where to get some sturdy, well built short mic stands. Low profile with solid base is best, for micing amps, kick drum, etc. Are there good options that aren't absurdly expensive? or should I keep just us...

I usually use an EV PL9, which is very similar to the re55. I haven't even messed with placement much, above the kit pointing straight down usually sounds great. I like to run it through a tube preamp that's distorting a little bit, then boost the low end a little bit if the kick and toms need to be...

usually I use a MD421 for this, although I've tried other mics (beyer M88, EV re10) with more or less the same results. The size and layout of the room will make it hard to build a properly enclosed booth out of gobos, but I can put the singer up against a (treated) wall, with 2 gobos blocking the d...

most of the time I do end up recording the vocals separately, but I've had a lot of projects lately where people really want to do either live vocals, or at least scratch vocals. I'd like to be able to accommodate if possible. Right now, even if I just put up a scratch vocal mic for cues and have no...

Effectiveness of GOBOs in a small room
For you acoustics gurus out there, I'm wondering about strategies for sound isolation within a relatively small recording space. My live tracking room is a basement, about 24'x10' with 7' ceilings. I'd like to be able to do live vocals (or at least decent sounding scratch vocals), but in a small spa...

not sure specifically how they're failing. nothing as dramatic as the connectors falling off. just developing intermittent connections somewhere along the line. is this the sort of thing I should be looking for? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812422023 the description says it ...

Cat5 cables for Furman HDS-6
I've had a Furman HDS-6 for a few years now and the Cat5 cables that run to the remotes are perpetually crapping out. Does anyone have any tips for:
1. finding more durable Cat5 cables
2. ways to keep these cables alive longer
thanks.

it seems like a lot of the intermittent problems with these machines are from bad connections with either the red IC sockets or the molex connectors. on top of that, some of the capacitors might be getting old enough to start causing problems. replacing IC sockets and capacitors is sort of tedious b...
