Topic: softening digital cymbals in mixing - LPF?

I had good luck on my current project with using a pair of 'underheads' about three feet in front of the drums. It seemed to put the cymbals right where I wanted them. On a few tracks I even boosted the highs to bring the cymbals out. That was nice for a change. EDIT: okay, I missed the 'in mixing' ...

I'm not sure if it's concidered new or not, but the micro pog is blast! As a bonus if you add a vibe and overdrive you could fool someone into thinking your guitar was a B3.

The Voice Box looks promising too. EH makes some fun stuff.

Nice!

But I believe Frank Zappa is still in the lead with a spider, an extinct mollusk, a fish, a jellyfish, a strain of bacteria, and an asteroid.

Alright all you 57 haters. What dynamics do you consider to be so much better then? I love my M88. It just adds a drop of honey to everything. The only place it falls short is I don't like to sing through it live. Also, I always prefer a condenser for recording vocals. For my voice the M88 is the b...

Alright all you 57 haters. What dynamics do you consider to be so much better then? I'm not so much a hater, as I just don't get the appeal. Other folks have done great things with them. I love my M88. It just adds a drop of honey to everything. The only place it falls short is I don't like to sing...

Sorry for the late replay. Busy weekend! The old drummer was only playing songs as an excuse to get a chance to play the drums, and probably try and show off what an awesome "drummer" he was. The new guy has picked an instrument, the drums, as a portal to help make a "song" happen. The priority here...

Playing the song vs. playing the drums? It's a matter of finding the heart of the song, rather than just looking for ways to show off what a badass you are. Especially with the drums, because rhythm is the heartbeat of music. I love bands where everyone gets their moments to shine, but they need to ...

This just gets better. I was really struggling the last time I tried to record acoustic guitar. Actually I'm still struggling with that track. Maybe I'll recut it. Snarl, that's a good question. I've wondered about that too. I think Radio Shack sells a SPL meter for around $30. Might not be a bad in...

So true!

I recently changed out drummers, after working with a VERY talented cat for about three years, but there is just no doubt about it - he was playing the songs in order to play the drums. The new guy is playing the drums in order to play the songs. It's a world of difference!

Clips and all? Thanks!

When you say that you 'just got sick of them' was there something specific you found lacking, or was it just general gear lust for something new? Did you ever get a chance to use them on acoustic guitar?
