Snicker all you want, but I just picked up an Aphex Aural Exciter for $70 AND I FRICKEN LOVE IT! I wish I had got one years ago despite everyone telling me what a POS it's supposed to be.

It's probably worth mentioning, even if it fairly obvious, that you could run the drum tracks through the PA after the initial capture as well. You know, like if you were worried about drum bleed in any possible future edits, or painting yourself into a corner.

There are quite a few kinks albums that, to my ears didn't get the treatment they deserved. Probably 'rushed' more that badly engineered, but the efeect is about the same.

So Kenny, did the Alice catch the 'chest' of the vocals alright? I'm guessing it did or you wouldn't be pleased with it for the VO work. Any chance of posting a clip?

Anybody else with vocal samples (sung or spoken) would be great too!

Not that I've noticed. Maybe someone more golden eared than me might notice something, but I can't. I do try to minimize it with the mic placement though just to keep on the safe side.

Sometimes you can get a better performance from the vocalist like that, and a better performance always seems to sit better.

this seemed to happen for the r. stones 'sympathy for the devil', wherein the piano dissapears in mono but feels like 'wide stereo'. then again, that might have just been bad engineering...? I always assumed that was a clever metaphor refering to the nature of evil as it relates to the concepts of ...

I'm not to keen on the lead guitar tone but it's a pretty solid effort on both counts... Blaze on!

So that's how Scott gets away with it! He lures you in with his reasonable rates and fools you by making your tracks sound better, but really he is making a killing by selling all those extra bits on the black market.
