Mobile PT Rig Opinions?

What is a better deal...I want at least 16 I/o 003R with BLA mods (which mod..regular or signature?) Or 002R with BLA mods or Some kind of used Mix Plus system? What configuration recommended (probably not going to use the Digi converters.. I will want AES or ADAT...maybe plug in an old Apogee AD 80...

I like the look of the workflow of that thing, but you should really consider the Yamaha 01V96 (I think the new one is called the 01V96VCM but they're pretty much the same board). The workflow is more awkward on the Yamaha and you'd need an interface but I absolutely love mine. You should be able t...

I'm not pretending that I make any money off of recording, I'm in the same boat as you (audio school grad). I had a sound for film internshil for a month or so...it wasn't a scrub toilet/fetch coffee internship, I got to transfer DATs of remote recordings to Pro Tools and edit to usable samples, alo...

The Audix D4 is more natural on kick than a D6...I like them both for different things. The D4 isn't bad on bass amp or even heavy guitar. I do agree with others that in a perfect world I would prefer a condenser...though D112s work fine for both, Beta 52 is good but similar to a D6 sound. I like a ...

Define inexpensive? How much total playback time do you need? I think Korg makes a Kaoss pad that samples, and they also have a sampling keyboard that's pretty new in the same format as the MicroKorg. Or find a used Akai sampler? If you are okay with something crusty, maybe an old Casio? Maybe there...

Fostex LR16 and other live/mobile recording options

I did a quick search and I didn't see this discussed...has anyone used one of these? http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fostex-LR16-Live-Recording-Mixer?sku=501674 The price is very enticing (especially with the $400 MIR if bought by the end of the month), but for some reason I associate F...

Anyone else chime in on this? I'm really considering one around tax time as I think it suits how I intend to work (primarily live/mobile recording and personal use).

I personally would suggest getting the dedicated video card if only for the reason that at least you would free up resources from your CPU and memory allowing it to do other things like run plugins.. I know that Pro Tools says that it requires a dedicated video card, though I've never tested this re...

I have built a few BYOC pedals...they aren't bad...really pretty good actually...I only have a couple store-bought pedals left. Not really sure what you mean by "almost as expensive as the originals"...maybe at original MSRP but not originals on eBay... Yeah I think they are a bit spendy but I'm als...

Hard to say...but if you don't know much about working on tube amps then I wouldn't be the first to say "send it to a tech." I can do some amp stuff like changing tubes and biasing...but I'll leave the fun stuff to a tech that I have no experience doing in an amp (I am handy with a soldering iron, b...

To each their own...but I think that most modern synths that you are likely to find at Guitar Center are really too preset-intensive for my interests. Even the really decent digital synths like Nords... I feel extremely restricted on something like a Microkorg...both because of the keyboard size and...

Yeah I've seen a 2 track Studer on Craigslist here for awhile with the price constantly going down...and there are plenty of studios in Kansas City so apparently they don't want to mess with it either. Personally I think that the maintenance/et cetera would still be an issue with a modern produced m...

And here I am thinking that you'd just figured out how to literally record to a spool of duct tape..now that would be truly amusing. I recorded a bunch of "demos" for a band I was in a few years ago and then we took some time off, and when we came back to them some of my sessions had become scramble...

FYI, Rondomusic.com occasionally sells something similar to this called the "Stomp Box" by SX. It is $15 and is much smaller...looks about the size of a 1590 enclosure...I almost ordered one but they were sold out. It is a piezo and meant to simulate a kick drum through a guitar amp.
