Best "value" on bulk TRS plugs? Amphenol exp?

Hey I'm needing to get 48 channels worth of 6ft or so TRS snakes for hooking up my Alesis HD24XR to my mixers, and its looking like DIY is going to be the only way to save money on good quality cable.. I'm handy with a soldering iron, so I'm not worried about having to do a bunch of soldering...what...

BTW just thought to add I play keyboards, so it wouldn't just be a studio toy, it'd also be a "me" toy.

Baldwin Electropiano opinions?

Opinions as a studio electromechanical? I don't have any cool keyboards at the moment, someone locally has one that is supposedly fully restored from 1970 that is $250. And since they sound more like a real piano than say a Rhodes...it appeals to me a little more than a Rhodes (since I don't have sp...

My guess is (and this is a long shot...) that they realized that there aren't a lot of new recording studios planning on installing million dollar consoles, and for those that are, there are plenty of them to be found in the used market from studio closings/et cetera. The home/project owner probably...

Kansas City area Tape Op-ers!

Looking to network with other engineers in the area as well as just get outside my current circle of friends. I am 24 and don't have my own studio (yet?) but am building a good collection of gear so I can start out on my own soon. I graduated from McNally Smith College of Music (Minnesota) in 2005. ...

Thanks guys. I ordered some cleaning supplies so I can get it going nice without worrying about wearing the heads down so much. I took the reel off that was on it and its not that dirty, but it looks like it probably hasn't been cleaned for the last few uses. Also I noticed at the end of the 388 thr...

That dry ice idea sounds fun. Where's a good source for dry ice if you just wanted to run out and get some? (just googled: liquor stores, welder supplies..) Yeah, big old cookie tins and silos. Your grip damps and controls the sound somewhat. I've got a little jam jar with rice that you can alterna...

Largeish very resonant tins, like the kind your mom sends you cookies in. Empty beer bottles. gently vibrating against each other. Dry ice pressed against a resonant object, such as a beer bottle or can (this isn't really percussive as much as tonal, pitch can be controlled by varying the pressure a...

I'm amazed at how many people seem to write in to complain about type size... Maybe I'm not a good candidate to judge this since I have 20/10 vision, but maybe people that have trouble reading the print edition of Tape Op would benefit from a PDF release for computer/iPad/Kindle reading so they can ...

I would be sure you are buying brand new unopened software (original box and discs, not cd r), otherwise don't buy it. Buying pirated software for "really cheap" is IMHO ethically worse than downloading software even (which I don't condone either). If you like using Logic and want to see it updated/...

Lexicon MX400 or MX500. Dual Stereo means two stereo effects per unit. USB / FIreWire control from your DAW via a control plug-in. Dual Digital IO, one SPDIF per stereo effects processor. Dual analog IO, stereo in and out for each processor. You can get them with either XLR, or 1/4 TRS connectors, ...

I don't know the Lexicon unit very well but I'd say the Wedge is on par with the 2 Yamahas. It doesn't do the multi effects thing that the SPX900 does but I've never been a big fan of those effects anyway. If you're looking for decent halls and plates that are easy to edit and save then the Wedge i...

Seriously? Someone kind of by me has one for $75...worth it? How does that compare to a Lexicon LXP15, Yamaha SPX900, Yamaha Rev 5...? (all local effects I can get for well under $300 used)

Good first outboard reverb/effects?

Looking for something relatively inexpensive (anything good available used for $300 or less? Might be willing to spend more if needed to get something not cheesy). Just something to cover the basic hall/plate/delay and maybe have other built in effects, doesn't need to be real fancy, so long as it s...
