Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Interested to here what you think of those monoprice pzm/boundary mics. Sale is still going on and I have been wondering about them along with the behringer ba19a. Monoprice has a boundary microphone in their stable right now, was discounted down to $35 last week so I ordered 2 (not received yet). ...

Re: Guitar Center finally in the cross-hairs?
except for sometimes finding some deals on used equipment, my experience with the 3 GC's in Austin (and honestly there are even more within a 50 mile radius...) is that they have most recently catered to "toys" and beginner instruments that used to be found in the Sears catalog. I used to shop MF a...

Re: Guitar Center finally in the cross-hairs?
While people may be buying toys / pedals / instruments, I expect a lot of live and some studio related equipment sales are way down.
Honestly I’d rather have a music go round in town than guitar centers...plenty of music gear to sell or trade off but dealing with Craigslist wears me out.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nBhfrCmosnsHhK60gZYfHc81NO4aoPqV/view?usp=drivesdk This is not Fugazi but this is an example of a 4 piece I recorded to Tascam 388 (squeezed it all down to 8 inputs). I don’t think 10 inputs is limiting on a 3 piece. Depending on the setup, everything sort of become...

Re: resources for learning how to recap and other gear maintenance
"the speakers are just more fatigue inducing than they used to be." At what SPL level are you listening? have you changed how you listen? Longer hours? Louder levels? When capacitors begin to fail, you will hear them sputtering and crapping out. They often can emit a loud hiss too. That is not what...

Re: resources for learning how to recap and other gear maintenance
Don’t have a direct recommendation, other than I’m not a big fan of simply shotgunning parts at anything, make sure you are making some form of educated diagnosis....get out your meter, etc... If anything, I’d be surprised if both of the speakers are exhibiting the same problem, I would be looking u...

Re: Micing acoustic guitar live recording with loud band
What we need, what we really need, is some method to "re-amp" an acoustic guitar. Or, I need to move to Oregon for summa that trippin' therapy they just legalized. Just do a direct into one of those fishman acoustic boxes? https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AuraSpectDI--fishman-aura-spectrum-d...

Yours must be older than mine, mine don’t have scripted lettering?
I agree, very nice underrated Tom mics. I’ve used at least some of them on nearly every session.

Re: Lyrec TR 533 - 24 track 2" tape machine
The best machine is the one you can get parts and service for. If it were me and I were seriously interested I would bring a tech with me to check it over first, and thoroughly research the parts situation so I knew exactly what I was getting into. Sometimes these old machines are not much better th...

Re: I need help High Passing
I tend to agree with above. Don’t go too heavy handed on EP and piano. Guitar will generally be fine a bit more high pass. Synth often I don’t feel too bad doing heavy high pass on if it’s appropriate. I think tenor sax you can probably get away with treating like a guitar (maybe even add a little d...

Do what you can to make the bleed sound good?
Capture a DI too, even though DI tone usually sucks. There are some boxes out there you can plug in a direct acoustic to that will make a passable tone however.

Re: Planning for December DIY drum recording
No right or wrong answers, when I think big sound and two piece band I think of fewer drum mics, not more. That’s my own preferred aesthetic when I can get away with it (ie: if you don’t need separation or sound replacement magic). Kick drum mic, mono overhead behind her pointed at the snare..maybe ...

Re: Who is still using Pro Tools 9 and doesn't want to upgrade?
I'm still on 9 and will likely never give avid any of my money again. Hear Hear!! Whats the etiquette on promoting a FB Group and discord on this forum? I started one for staunch Pro Tools 9 users and I want to build it up to be a large database for people like us As long as it’s not spammy I don’t...
