Re: mastering for cassette
People actually listen to their cassettes? I thought it was just a novelty and people just redeemed the download code. This cracked me up a little. haha. I have a bunch of rad tapes that have been sitting here collecting dust and have bought a few on those bandcamp days they've been having. I just ...

Re: Who is still using Pro Tools 9 and doesn't want to upgrade?
PT9 was about when (home studio version) pro tools got good, I stuck with that for awhile. 11/12 was solid and some good new features, stayed more or less stagnant since then. Stopped at...late 2019 I think. I like modern plugins and other software so PT9 just wasn’t practical for me anymore unless ...

Re: mastering for cassette
People actually listen to their cassettes? I thought it was just a novelty and people just redeemed the download code. Discogs has seen massive growth for the last few years with cassette sales. they reported it in their annual report. Cassette Store day is becoming larger as well. More and more fa...

I don’t know shit about the topic, but are they by chance using a different kind of tape formula than your reference? Maybe?

Re: Alternatives to DAWs?
My PT set up isn't underserving me at all. I think the reason I am considering this move is more of a philosophical practice and, further, a new challenge. I am always challenged by PT and constantly trying to learn new ways to do things. The challenge of going in a more or less analog direction is...

Re: Alternatives to DAWs?
It depends on your needs. Is your DAW used for basic recording and mixing or for editing, arrangement, etc..? For me, a computer based DAW is going to be simpler to operate than something standalone...because complicated editing, midi, automation, syncing video, running plugins is important. There a...

Re: Alternatives to DAWs?
what is it that you are not getting with your current setup? I am currently covered under the Avid plan and it's not doing me a bit of good. I've reported a fatal bug in Pro Tools 2020 since the first build came out, have been going back and forth with Avid support and a slew of troubleshooting...,...

Re: Alesis HD24 too old for recording band rehearsal?
The easiest way *for me* to get audio out of the HD24xr was to use an adat interface, I used a m audio lightbridge...and just record to the computer in real time. I tried some of the software tools and thought they were janky. Recording into the computer is basically foolproof and only takes as long...

Re: Alesis HD24 too old for recording band rehearsal?
Is that the one for sale in KC by chance? Yes it’s a pretty fair deal. To answer the question ...I used an HD24xr for many years...recorded concerts with it, etc... sometimes with a Behringer mx8000 (mackie 24.8 copy)... i think it sounds pretty decent. For a rehearsal recording, the quality of the ...

Re: microphone death
Never. Now I have a couple beta 52s I’m wondering about as they don’t get regular use (like uh all of my mic collection right now).

Re: Does anyone mic the hat and if so why?
If I were miking drums for my tastes alone, being honest I like to think of the kit as an instrument not a bunch of separate things that need their own mic...my favorite recordings are more often than not the 2 mic sessions, and there’s never too little hat in those...and even when I have several de...

Re: Does anyone mic the hat and if so why?
I do but 9/10 times I don’t use it, for the same reasons you mentioned...there’s plenty of hat already.

Re: Overdrive pedals educate me
There’s some choices for subtleties and some choices for more up there. I’m a pedal junky so my opinion may differ. I like something tube screamer-ish for shaping a clean or dirty (mesa amp) tone..I don’t usually set one for a lot of gain as much as it is kind of an EQ/emphasis sort of thing. You do...
