Re: What do you hear in this vocal?

Is the folding like a distortion you hear generally, or does it happen at specific times?

What do you hear in this vocal?

https://youtu.be/qFE-QaAyXMU

I’m curious if anyone can pick up any clues on the type of compression on Alexi Murdoch’s vocal in this song. Or any other thoughts regarding the vocal...eq, mic family, etc. I’m really taken by how three-dimensional it sounds.

Re: I highly recommend REAPER

I’ve been using Reaper for maybe 12 or so years. It’s great, and editing is a breeze. I’ve tried MixBuss, but couldn’t get into it. Now that I’m experimenting with Luna, I think I’ll continue to do all my tracking and editing in Reaper and then migrate the project to Luna to mix.

Re: DI bass and guitar

Late to the party, but I’ve loved the b15 I’ve played through in the past, and mic’ing that produced a beautiful sound. But that’s about the only mic’ed bass amp that’s really blown my mind. Haven’t recorded an Ampeg 8x10, though. Generally, I’m happy with a p-bass with flatwounds going through some...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Neumann km183...I've been really fascinated by omni sdc's, and this one definitely gives me a different flavor over the Oktava mc012 and Mojave ma100's that I've got. I tracked some scratch acoustic guitar tracks with it the other night, and it's super bright up close on the instrument, but further ...

ISO Cello and/or Viola

Hey all,
I’m hoping to find a string player who can lend some sounds to a songwriter project and can record themselves - maybe four songs. PM me for details. Thanks!

Re: Check in Thread

I logged on tonight after a long time away from the board because an inner voice told me I’d find some kind of needed connection here. Thanks for starting this thread, Tony, and thanks to all who have responded. The longer I quarantine, the larger the outside world seems to loom as some kind of mons...

Anyone up for a TOMB cover Tom Waits compilation?

Pick a song, record it, and we'll throw 'em all together.
Any interest?

I kept waiting on a note to resolve it around 1:30, and was happy that it never came. The instrument sounds freaking great.

Too lazy to check the whole thread, and I'm sure it's already been said: EV 664! I used to tape one to the underside of the drummer's throne, and it made for a very cool, quasi old school drum sound.

Hey Gregg,

Nope, didn't make it up to Buffalo, but still hoping to interview at interview Eugene Zumchak at some point. And, that's funny about Herb's textbook!
