Re: What's the scene like in central Illinois?
Yeah, I guess it's a big state...I'll be somewhere near the Normal/Bloomington area, but am interested in the region as a whole.

Tracking a slide guitar?
Any tips on tracking slide guitar? I'm using a tele through a small tube amp (Laney LC15 - sort of Vox AC15 like) and also an acoustic, and just wanted some stuff that sounds like Brian Paulson / Son Volt slide - not to dirty, but not lap steel clean either.
Any ideas, suggestions, warnings, etc?

Re: Mastering
I think it's fair to say that you get (roughly) what you pay for, but this does not mean that you can't get something positive out of cheaper plug-ins and/or hardware. Sure, your friend down the road might not get you the same results Bob Ludwig will, but having a different pair or ears that you tru...

Re: Guitar Players: Most Overrated Solo
Steve Vai is a living, breathing overrated guitar solo. So is Yngwie and every shredder who has ever played. Except the guy who played on the Beastie's No Sleep til Brooklyn.

Re: half rack compressor, what are my options ...
I think there's a Meek on ebay right now, and I'm sure you can find a used RNC for about what you'd pay for a new BlueMax.

What's the scene like in central Illinois?
So it looks like I'm going to be moving to central Illinois at the end of the summer, so I was curious to hear about the scene from anyone who lives there or who has lived there. I've been a hermit in New Hampshire for two years, so any kind of live and/or recording scene would be a nice change of p...

Re: Mastering...
One good piece of advice...if you're going the DIY route, get someone else to do it. I think halfway decent mastering can be accomplished at home, but I also think that a fresh set of ears is critical.

Re: what's your reference cd? / what u listening to now!
Yeah, I'll second the nod to Pearl Jam's Yield. That's always a good ref...especially love the bass sounds on All Those Yesterdays and the guitars on Brain of J. Is that a Brendan O'Brien record?

What are Red Book CD specs?
Maybe a really basic question, but what exactly are Red Book specs for audio cd's, and are most DAW's capable of creating them?
Thanks...
Thanks...

Re: Can I use Pro Tools LE w/out any Digi hardware?
Would this be the case if all I wanted to do was import files into ProTools, not needing to actually record anything into it? Again, sorry if this is a really basic question...
