Replacing drums makes all things sound samey. Meh. Really liked the last Kurt Vile record for that also.

M500 mics can often be had on the net, ca. 150$... but with shot or worn ribbons. In contrast this one was serviced a year ago and not used much.

Beyerdynamic M500 ribbon /BM85 for sale pricedrop

The Beyerdynamic BM85 was a wireless mic with the head of the Beyer M500 mic. (Frank Sinatras vocal mic of choice, if you want to know) After many of the frequencies were given away to the mobile phone companies, these mics would have been useless. So I had the electronics gutted, a new ribbon was p...

WTB - broken Beyerdynamic M380 or TG-x50 or Opus 65

Hello, does anybody have a broken Beyerdynamic M380 (or the other with the similar housing), TG-x50 or Opus 65? The capsule can be shot, but the housing I need to be at least halfway okay.

For my part, I use a buttery tube preamp first, which acts as a compressor when driven a little, then go from there into the DIYRE color, adding to taste. Same idea: as long as the vocals don't get too loud, it all sounds harmless. As soon as you push it, it translates seamlessly into the red. http:...

I'm not adverse to the ideas of Mr. Williams and the bride of zen schematics don't seem to bad either. I have been looking into http://www.sg-acoustics.ch/analogue_audio/microphone_preamplifiers/index.html as well, which brings me... I need at least a schematic and layout to guide me, I'm not fluent...

Yes, I can agree on that - in cases where such a mic as this is used, the character should be preserved. Which modern designs for low gain? The SSL 9000 series style preamp or the Graeme Cohen-like designs have a lot of gain ...and I think they rule for stuff where you don't shove the mic up close t...

building a low gain mic pre... but which one?

Hello, I built the ioaudio MK-U47 mic and it has - lovely as it is and like so many condensers - a healthy output signal. I used it with a host of preamps, most of which got 60 or 80 dB gain, which means I have the input turned way down or even the pad in. As the old Telefunken v72 had fixed 34 dB g...

She made the point to not use much distortion from overloading circuits in amps, pedals and the lot - she said she's tired of it and wants to go a dirt road nobody ever went down. The idea with the input of a synth - yes, I see if I can borrow an MS20 or something like that.

Dirty guitar

In january a trio comes in, basic drums, bass + guitar. The guitar player says she wants her guitar very, very dirty. Not necesarily with lots of gain and distortion pedals. I don't think they will layer more than two tacks of guitar and they will track everything at once and together in the room, b...
