Re: shedshrine build 3.0 - furniture, cats, gear and enlightenment, man

rounds on fretless is classic, that's what Jaco used. what some people do to make sure their fretless board doesn't become scuff up, is they have it finished with epoxy. it makes it smooth as glass and impenetrable. Jaco and many others have done this.

nice looking axe!

Re: shedshrine build 3.0 - furniture, cats, gear and enlightenment, man

Mark, as our resident bass maniac* I've been meaning to ask you what weapons you wield in your arsenal? What’s your take on 5+ strings? Fretless? Door proximity? * (no disrespect for other bass maniacs present intended nor implied) door proximity - my basses are hanging on the wall no where near a ...

Re: shedshrine build 3.0 - furniture, cats, gear and enlightenment, man

apparently you guys haven't gotten into the world of custom instruments. sure off the shelf stuff doesn't cost that much, but custom work (good!) can cost every bit of 10k+. if you are scared of that, don't even look at custom archtop guitars or ritter basses (made with rare hardwoods and gold/gems...

It looks like it does, but eeeeesh, why even take the chance? That 5 string looks like it cost a fortune. Let's hope vvv's right and it's a closet.
yeah it's a fodera, likely in the 10k region on price

What’s the pedal on the top right? Looks like a metal zone. And looks like you have 8 of them! Please tell me you use them all at once for the ultimate swarm of angry bees tone. it's Janek Gwizdala's room. they are Boss OC-2 octave pedals. he and many other bassists are big into that pedal, they tu...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Nice. I love the cx-3. Ive always wanted one. And I first heard them via an old band-mate as well. Let us know who wins! the CX-3 won the B3 clone tone competition. looks and sounds great. The cool thing the Roland had going is it has Square wave (Bright) drawbars, you can get transistor organ soun...

Re: shedshrine 3.0 build

Sometimes I think being a little more mature, more experienced, and hopefully a bit more content in life can cut into the artmaking thing. Misery, yearning, confusion, anxiety, longing, ambition, competition--that's where a lot of the good stuff artistically comes from. And hopefully, as one grows ...

Re: shedshrine 3.0 build

if you are ever in need of money the 238's and 388 will fetch a tidy sum these days. i've seen 388 go for 2K+ and 238's going for 1k+. not advocating selling them, just saying they are highly coveted out there.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

1980 Roland VK-09 1980 Korg CX-3 Battle of the vintage analog clonewheel organs. I can't fit a proper organ in my small studio space, so it's gotta be one of these. Had a friend that used a CX-3 in a band we were in and it sounded fantastic through a motion sound. I'm gonna put both these through th...

Re: Downsizing advice

i am constantly evaluating and re-evaluating the gear i have and trying to find ways to do more with less and to minimize. my studio is on the 3rd floor of my home (finished attic) and it's about 1/3 of that (other side is a den of sorts to hang and watch a screen for netflix/etc). so i'm working wi...
