Re: Bach-age

Well you gotta figure, the settings on your delay pedal might motivate you to play a certain riff. We often futz with the reverb pre delay and decay to match the song. If you're hearing your music in a space with certain characteristics all of the time, consciously or subconsciously you're going to...

Re: Latest Gear You've Un-Acquired....

You don't actually get rid of stuff. You just talk about it I'm turning talk into action. Just put up round one in the Buy/Sell/Trade section. yeah i'm always selling stuff. i treat my "studio" (i use that term loosely) as a trial space for gear. i just buy stuff at lowball price, try it out, it st...

Re: Headphones for occasional mix reference

AKG K240 Studio. Which surprisingly now retail for about half what I paid for my last set ($99 on sale in '08-ish). (Of course, if you liked the Sony's, then you might not like the AKGs. In my experience, people seem to gravitate to one or the other, seldom both.) agreed, i use the vintage AKG K240...

Re: Weird cable companies- ever tried any of these?

I had a Seismic snake. Maybe I still do...? it's Ok for the studio where it stays put. I wouldn't expect one to last too long if gigged. Not much different than the quality of a Hosa or Monoprice snake IMO... you know, molded 1/4" plugs and such. not much room for repairs.. Mike yeah, i think i cut...

Re: DI bass and guitar

I've been looking for those transformers for ages but the price is crushing. yeah the wolfbox ones go for around 300-400 a pop, the Triad A-11J or A-12J. that's why i went with UTC. You can find them on ebay for between 100-150 a pop, parts for DI are 25 tops, you're paying about the same as you wo...

Re: DI bass and guitar

This thread inspired me to dig out a homemade DI I bought at a yard sale years ago that uses the A-11J transformer used in the Wolfbox. I did my best to address the issues that made me put it away in the first place, & I've got to say, it's pretty nice. Noticeable improvement over the DI in my inte...

Re: Weird cable companies- ever tried any of these?

i've bought seismic before, they are what you think they are. cheap chinese made cables. but they work and i've not had any issues with them in a year or so of use in my studio. no idea on the others.

Re: DI bass and guitar

i would recommend popping on Talkbass.com forum and asking for help there. there are more than a few ampeg b15 nuts over there who are very knowledgeable and helpful. Beans_on_toast, JimmyM, and others are very helpful and know their stuff on the ampeg b15 amps. a post there might yield some results...

Re: DI bass and guitar

that's the B15S it's actually a different model, it's more like the B18 head in that it puts out 50+ watts. the b15n is just 25 watts. i'm guessing it lacks that option. i used to have one of those. powerful and large.

I loved the Larry Klein Article in the latest Magazine

thank you so much for that Larry Klein interview. I'm a big fan of his, both as a bassist and as a producer and his work with Joni. It was a really easy and wonderful read and gave some great insights into his philosophy. Curiosity is key!

Re: Presonus Eureka DIY Mods / Revive Audio Mods worth it?

are you handy with a soldering iron? the revive mods i've seen for other items looks nice but it also looks like a ton of marketing mumbo jumbo. basically every listing says "wider soundstage, more bandwidth, clearer" etc etc. all they are doing in most cases is replacing opamps with newer faster on...

Re: Latest Gear You've Un-Acquired....

marantz pmd740 - wonderful cassette 4 track, rolls royce really. but i'm doing the tascam 488mkII for now, and i hate unused gear so its on the block. fostex model 80 reel - i downsized to cassette tascam 488mkII. it's cheaper, more portable, more minimal (mixer included). this really is a great mac...
