Re: dark condensers on the cheap for high SPLs
damn, you got 8?! jealous. $70ish a pop when they were blowing them out was pretty tough to pass up, but i only snagged 3. i'll make do. have wanted a 4047 for a good while, but yeah, a bit pricier. soon, though. curious about trying a cheap-o ribbon, now, though.

Re: Slate VMS ML-1 fans?
ah. interesting. i can certainly hear the difference with the switching of emulations, but not as much of a "wow" as i had hoped for. i initially was going to buy the ml2s and maybe should have gone that route first. jealous you got all the mic models. i'll give those tunes a listen. curious.

Slate VMS ML-1 fans?
been curious about modeling mics a good while and took advantage on the sale price on the Slate in the last couple weeks. used it in a few capacities and have been pretty underwhelmed so far. drum room, guitar and bass cab, vocals. will try it a little longer, but really not feeling it. the mic, its...

Your storage solutions - esp for cables
I have a new spot and for once need to be efficient with my use of space. What are folks using as far as storing cabling, especially? I’m thinking some kind of hook/dowel situation on the walls would be a good plan. Are there some ready made things that aren’t unnecessarily expensive?

Re: dark condensers on the cheap for high SPLs
yeah, the 012s are my go to for batter head! have wanted a ksm137 for a while, might be time to pull the trigger. used to use 4050s on bottom tom duties, funny enough, but found them to be a little thin. curious about a stock oktava 219/319. i only have the Joly modded 219, which is pretty damn good...

dark condensers on the cheap for high SPLs
looking for mics for resonant toms, mostly. i have plenty of options for more neutral or bright, but have been digging the sE electronics X1D - just had one break and they don't make them anymore, so not holding out hope for a repair (still under warranty). hell, i'm tempted to try a cheap ribbon do...

Re: Bass Plugins
and unless your DI is really bad (in which case, try a better one?), the lack of low end may not be because of it. Monitors, room treatment, bass/pickup? all that applies. +1. and I would say be sure you are monitoring through something that can recreate those sub frequencies (either a sub in your ...

Re: Cheap marshall clone
at that pricepoint, i'd be dubious. for that kinda $$, i'd say you're better off getting a tiny terror - those things are great for the studio. simple controls on them is a big plus, too. quite a bit pricier, but you can get a Fryette (or Fryette era VHT) for dirt cheap, considering what they delive...

France (or even EU) tape baking and 1/2" transfer
so i'm helping a friend remix an old recording and he had a friend transfer it, but it clearly has some sticky shed happening. he hasn't had much luck finding services for the baking/transfer over there, so i thought i'd check with you all. thank you in advance

Re: Best Saturation For Specific Instruments
also UAD 1073 MKII is great for adding dirt to guitars, tho not expressly a saturation plug
I like PSP's vintage warmer, UAD 1176 RevA (no compression), bx VSM-3,or UAD API vision for dirt on bass, though don't use any of them often
Decapitator on Drum bus in the "T" mode

Re: Best Saturation For Specific Instruments
I like Soundtoys Decapitator a lot. Even more since I downloaded Tchad Blake's presets. Those are a lot of fun. I've found it's most valuable in a less-is-more sense. Love it on vocals and damn near everything else, just in small doses. I haven't successfully used it on 2-buss yet. I have tried tho...

Re: Tons of Plugin Deals Right Now. Any Suggestions?
i have an awful lot of dirt plugins, if you want the bx saturator, i'd gladly sell to you for cheap. hit me up with a PM. that said, soundtoys stuff is fantastic - whole bundle is on sale now for cheap and well worth it. i bought decapitator many years ago at full price and do not regret it at all -...

Re: Your favorite general use eq plugin
i really like the brianworx digital eq V3. easy to dial in and the band solo can help find problems quick. other handy things - M/S option, stereo spreading, mono maker for the low end, dynamic band isn't great, but can be helpful sometimes. also pretty light on CPU for color, i honestly still like ...

Re: transparent 500 series pre
I have a JLM Audio 99v 500 series pre that is pretty damn clean/fast. They make a DIY kit called Baby Animal that got a pretty good review in TapeOp a while back. I believe it's similar to the J99 design though missing a gain stage - but I could be wrong? pretty damn cheap, also.
