Re: shedshrine 3.0 build

(Seriously, if everybody in the world were happy, I think art would suffer tremendously.) I used to think this way too. But imagine how much great art would happen if everyone had their basic needs taken care of so they could devote more time and attention to art? Great things can come from joy and...

Re: anyone sell their own samples?

Are you talking about individual files of drum hits and loops, a full-fledged Kontakt instrument, or an SFX library?

Re: Inexpensive options & recommendations for talkback

At my old studio I just plugged a cheap gooseneck mic into the last channel on the board and used the mute switch as a "talkback button". Routed that signal to everyone's headphones except mine and it worked fine! There are also solutions like this if you need a convenient momentary switch: https://...

Re: ASCAP or BMI and why?

I think they have different fee structures but both are pretty affordable. I went with ASCAP because I thought the UI on their site was nice and simple.

I wanted to use Reaper recently, but I couldn't even figure out how to arm a track. So I'm back to doing "sound on sound" in Audacity.

No good answer for you, just wanted to say I remember watching this buildout happen on the forum and it looked like a great little space! I hope your next space is even better. Good luck with the goo.

Re: Tsunami of PODCASTS: new standards?

It's more about LUFS/LKFS than peak level. There are official standards set by the US and EU broadcast industries for radio/podcasts, but I don't know them offhand. Ozone's "set target threshold" is amazingly useful and takes all the guesswork out of this! When in doubt, I usually default to Spotify...

Re: I have high end console

I had a younger co-worker asking about vintage Tascam mixers recently. I told him to look for a Ramsa. Tascam made some shitty prosumer gear back in the day, which really doesn't reflect well on their legacy of good tape machines. I used a Ramsa WR-8118 for years (paired with a Tascam 38) and loved...

What exactly is the question here?

It's a tool like any other; using it to create quality work should showcase it adequately!

Re: Using reverb to differentiate lead and backing vocals

I'd think about it in terms of what kind of reverb each vocal part needs, rather than "lead" vs "backing". If the lead part has a lot of words and syllables going on, a shorter reverb will help it from becoming muddy. If the backing vocals are longer "oohs" and "aahs", give 'em a long, lush hall 've...

Re: power conditioners, i know i know i know

They definitely ain't voodoo and snake oil. They're essentially rackmount surge-protecting power strips with extra protection from RF, and they're pretty much essential for any audio rig. I used to use the Furmans with the dimmable lights, but I just sold them and got the smaller one without the lig...
