This does not sound like the MIDI controller is causing the problem.

What kind of "distortion"? Clipping? Digital "ripping" over long periods, even with low signal levels?

First thing I'd check is whether Pro-Tools and the audio interface(s) are set to the same sample rate.

There is little reason to prefer Firewire at this point.

I got schooled in this post here:

sadly, logic X is too.

logic 9 is pretty much perfect.
This mirrors my experience. Meanwhile, I do prefer working in Logic X by now.

Logic 9 SUCKS ROYAL ASS.

So, stay with 8, just make it stable for your mac... don't run other software at the same time, etc etc etc...

Cheers
That's funny.

I found Logic 9 much more pleasant that 8, and less buggy too (for my use).

Really dumb question: That still doesn't allow full reconstruction of the mix, does it?

Theoretically, there will still be sidechaining, or master-buss compression, or effects summing with compression etc., left unaccounted for, right?

Hi, I typically have been making backups as recommended by the P&E Wing of the Recording Academy. A working copy, plus two backups, one of them off site. Then, when the mix is finalized and approved, I make stems, print all individual tracks with whatever effects I processed them with, following th...

I have the MBP connected to an OWC drive via FW800, and then I come out of that drive's FW400 port to my MH2882, which is also daisy-chained to a MOTU 828mk2. The drive is simply for backups, sometimes for VIs or samples (rarely these days). So the interfaces are running FW400, the drive is running...

I am running backups and audio via FW 800 (which are running at FW400 speeds due to both FW400 and FW800 using the same FW800 port. Unless you are routing FW 800 devices THROUGH FW400 ports, using both FW800 and FW400 devices on a single FW800 bus does not slow down the bus to 400MBits. FW800 and F...

To be fair, the FULL price of Logic X is a lot cheaper than the UPGRADE price used to be, so even with Apple obviously discontinuing "upgrade" pricing, we're still all coming out well ahead. Same goes for FCP. I agree we are coming out well ahead, PDFs of the good documentation work on my iPad very...

A terabyte SSD is under $400.

I really wouldn't bother with spinny drives for recording anymore.

The answer is: mess with it until you like the results. I do a lot of external processing. Sometimes I'll want the original signal to add the clarity, sometimes I'll just want the ethereal floatiness of the stereo chorus. Sometimes I'll use just the grainy grunge that comes out of the analog delay a...

MacBook Pro and a ULN-2? or even a ULN8? The Metric Halo stuff is the single best value you are ever going to get out of an investment in digital hardware. My 2882 started off life ten years ago as a +DSP unit, got upgraded to current spec with a 2d card a few years ago, and will be upgraded again t...

My understanding is that loudness wars got started with jukeboxes. The radio explanation doesn't make sense because--though what you say about soft signal and dropouts is true, every radio station employs a chain of limiting, multiband compression, 15 khz lo-pass, etc before the signal heads to the...
