Re: I like Barack Obama

Holy bigotry, batman! Maybe I was just flipping around the TV dial and happened upon a guy who is seen as a rising star in politics and was very impressed by him. I'll grant you that one reason he is interesting to the political world is that he is black. For me the irony in my liking him is that h...

You should only refer to yourself in the third person in the future.

Trust me, it's cool.

Could be, Malkmus didn't go into details. Where did you hear that?

Re: Why does my organ cabinet hum?

Hammonds are a little tricky to ground. If you've still got an ungrounded plug, try turning it around. Old ungrounded equipment sort of fakes a ground by making a capacitor connection to one side of the AC, and of course it works a lot better if that side is the neutral side. Capacitor? Is that Fre...

Why does my organ cabinet hum?

I suspect that this has a really obvious answer, but my electrical knowledge is close to zero. Anyways: I have a hammond organ and a separate Sharma (leslie type) speaker cabinet. When I connect the two and use the speakers in the Sharma, there's a constant hum. Not a buzzing or familiar amp noise, ...

Re: Help me make my Les Paul unique sounding?

No one's mentioned mini-humbuckers, ala Firebird. I like Duncan Antiquity mini-humbuckers. Cheers, Jay Yeah, that's what Neil Young does to all his Les Pauls, I believe i.e. Puts firebird pickups in them. Of course there's so much more to his sound what with the Fender Deluxe Amp with mismatched tu...

Re: Beautiful Dreamer

It's either out now on vinyl or it's about to be released, that I do know. Two records and side four contains instrument only versions of some of the songs. Oh that's great information. Just curious, where did you hear about it? I've been Smile um......... obsessed, for want of a better word for ye...

Re: Beautiful Dreamer

What really bugs me about the new Smile is it doesn't seem to have been released on vinyl at this point. Such an important release usually sees a pretty nice vinyl release, and I remain confident that some one will eventually release it. BUT, I dunno. How was it recorded, btw? It's either out now o...

Re: Snare on Pavement's Crooked Rain Crooked Rain

I actually decided to listen to CR CR since I was thinking about it. I enjoyed the drum sound as much as ever, but it also reminded me how busy Stephen West is on the snare. I just don't know how he could have recreated the original parts. Maybe they just did it on a couple of numbers, I dunno.

Snare on Pavement's Crooked Rain Crooked Rain

I've always liked the drum sound on Crooked Rain Crooked Rain, despite reading a couple of Malkmus interviews where he says that the drums were recorded badly and salvaged by Bryce Goggin at the mixing stage (I think he mentions that in the Tape Op book in fact). I was very surprised though, to read...

You guys have got to be kidding about Rudy for '08. There is no way in hell he will get through those republican primaries, where the average voter is welll to the right of the party. Rudy is too liberal, scary as that might seem. I'm hoping they run Bill Frist, the Senate Majority leader, he's popu...
