I've recorded drunk kits before, it works better when they are sober  I'm using Focusrite Pro 40 and 24DSP with a pair of 312's on the 2 line ins of the 24. I'm considering sending the 40 to BLA and getting an Audient Asp 008 or UAD 710-d for adat 96k ins. They would work well with an Apollo fo...

I tend to do everything like I'm working on tape. I Love not dealing with it's problems any more. I'm still about takes, maybe a punch here and there. It's not as slick or fast as assembly, but it sounds closer to the truth. Nobody I've ever played with or heard play live, played each section exactl...

I think it's pretty much win 7 and 8 appears to be the better system for it. Just a few motherboards and only Intel processors so far. At least the door is opening. I switched to 7 a couple of years ago, even put 8 on my wife's desktop, she's liking it now.

Bro Shark,
People are running Thunderbolt on PC's successfully. Check the UAD forum for details.

LowG, I too, have more cpu and memory than I can imagine using on my desktop, but I don't mind the dsp addition. I don't really see UAD as all that expensive, compared to hardware it's really cheap. I have the Slate VCC and others on Ilok, but wouldn't run them on my laptop, anyway. I only use the l...

UAD seems just a lot better to me. I have both, but UAD gives me more processor power. iLok is just a pita. I don't care what others do, I'm running legal, why should I have to put up with problems to protect a vendor??? That's their problem, everyone wants to make their problem your problem. Fuck p...

Even though I'm on a mission to stop buying anything but parts for project gear I have boards for already, I still look at ads to see if there's a reasonable substitution at a cheaper price...when I see that, I go beserk happy clickin' to get away, and never go back. Um, I set a price I want, but yo...

I have a 7 year old studio in a 31 foot Excell. It hasn't turned out to be what I'd hoped. I suppose it would be ok for remote setups with snakes, but as a working space, it would take a hell of a lot of insulation to isolate outside sound. It might be ok on a ranch in the middle of nowhere, with a ...

That's called 'aging', they say custom shop, and charge extra for new shit...lol. I'm 62 and have a different viewpoint. At best, time makes it "Vintage" like me  Go down to a river or lake and go fishing , or go hunting for something not in a store...you'll get over it the "golden years" aren'...

I've talked to my agent, as well, and there's no peace of mind there. I'll have to look into AFM, I kept a card until I went full time as an operating engineer. BMI sounds good as well. The standard policies jack the price to around 33% if you are performing live, too. That's a bit steep, don'tcha t...

I think so, too. I have the Saffire 24dsp box and 40, 8 channel box. Amazing for the money. http://www.recordingreview.com/blog/recording-gear-strategies/ethan-winers-converter-loopback-test/ This was an easy step for me as I still have my AI3 to handle boxes, synths and other out of the box sources...
