Why does my Gates pre have so much gain ?
This is a Gates Unimote tube pre. Judging by the looks of it its at least 30 years old. I think it used to be part of a portable broadcast rig ? I plug in a mic and can't even turn up the gain past about 2 before it starts clipping the transients. This thing don't sound too pretty when you fully cli...

Grizzly Man Soundtrack (richard thompson, jim o'rourke, etc.)
Just watched this documentary by Werner Herzog on DVD the other day. The movie is super good. But being a musician and an engineer I was just as impressed with the special feature which showed how they made the music to go along with the movie. I think it was like an hour long. Tons of great studio ...

Patchbay configuration
I finally got a patchbay. Yay. I have a pretty limited setup but just got so sick of mucking around behind my rack. Having never used one before I am a little confused as to the best way to set it up. So I'm looking for some ideas/suggestions for cool signal routing possibilities. I am sure there ar...

Bouncing to Disk(PTLE) through outboard comp.
Yesterday was the first time I tried this, and I was trying to get the level up as loud as possible on the master fader before bouncing. I got it right up to where the clipping indicator should have been lighting up, but for some reason they wouldn't light up. Even when I cranked the outputs of the ...

And another CP70 question
The keyboard action on mine seems really uh, stiff. My hands get tired out . Is there a way to loosen it up ?

Ok - believe it or not I have had some luck getting this thing into better tune than it was in before. I was lucky though because the upper 2/3 of the keyboard was already in really good tune. The lower 1/3 had some problem notes, but I was able to get them sounding pretty in. I've come to the concl...

Hey B3groover- Yeah I'm only repeating what my repair guy said. He said if I can find an input transformer from another M3 he could fix it for me. I guess its the main power transformer, but I am really not sure. I do know that when looking into the organ from the back , the broken transformer is on...

Tuning a Yamaha CP70
So I'm going to take the plunge and attempt tuning my CP70. By all accounts tuning a piano is a bitch but I really can't afford to have a professional tuner come over.
Wondering if anyone has successfully done this themselves and if so can you give me some tips on pulling this off.
thanks- JD

The little wind screen thingy that covers the capsule is loose and makes an annoying rattling sound when say the kick drum is hit.
I tried putting a little tape on it to hold it still but fear this is messing with the frequency responce of the mic.
What the hell ?
