Re: Putting SNARE up the middle...a consideration

It seems to me that when watching/listening to a live band, you don't hear drums (snare or otherwise) left or right, but rather in the center. To me this is one of many factors that makes mono drums appealing. Thing is, you do hear where they are. You don't realize it because your brain does it ins...

Great. Makes sence now, thanks! Lastly, do you guys have a preferance to optical vs. tube vs. (what else is there... IC) for compression? Thanks again.

Re: Difference Between Distressor and Compressor??

Is the only difference that it's expensive or is it a brand or a type/style of compressor?

Re: The Unwelcome Guest

As for the houseguest... I say turn it up (just like Freedom Rock). If he complains, that will give you a perfect chance to politely say, "Well perhaps you'd be more comfortable at a motel. -GABE That's rude. He's family. Just be honest. Anyone should appreciate honesty. "Hey uncle (whoever)... lis...

Re: Your favorite Kinks album ... from a recording perspecti

Has anyone else gone through an obsessive Kinks phase? Joe Not the Kinks, but the Who. The vintage guitar guy here in town has Ray's (or was it Dave's) Gibson V. He also has Eric Clapton's mid 60s Gibson ES-335 that he used in the mid 90s and auctioned a few years ago with the rest of his prized gu...

Re: Best Mono Drum Micing Technique??

Great ideas, but I am not that limited by gear, just the amount of chanels for this situation. I can use multiple mics and I have a mixer and some mic preamps if that will be yeild better results. My mics include LD condensor, 57s, SM7, AT Pro25, RE15... Wouldn't a multiple mic situation be better i...

Best Mono Drum Micing Technique??

Hi, I have a situation where I need to mic drums to one track. What is the best method of mic placement/technique to get the bigest/clearest/transparent/real sound? A lot to ask, but I want to get some opinions to get me as close as possable. Thanks to all!

Modding A Bellari RP220 Mic Pre??

Anybody have any info or suggestions on upgrades or mods for the Bellari RP 220? The tubes are a no brainer. I'm pretty good with electronics so If something is really worthy yet involved, I can do it. Thanks!

Re: re-20 or 421?

I would too probably take the Sure SM-7 over the EV RE-20. Decide what your main uses will be and then decide between the Sennheiser 421 or the Sure SM-7 / EV RE-20.

Re: Fender late '70's Precision Basses

Hi, Fender's guitars of the 70s were all over the place with regard to quality and playability characteristics like goog sounding pickups, wood, weight, sound, etc. You can have two same year identical guitars and one may play/sound like crap, the other a jem. With this in mind, you will be better e...

Re: Biggest Pet Peeve clients do in the studio...

how many of us have done the dummy fader trick, the "producer" knobs gimmick, or the "touch a knob and smile" fakeout? Come on, 'fess up! I refuse to do this because I'm convinced that some guys did this to me early on. When someone else is paying for the session, I'll give them what they want. If ...
