Re: what style are you makin
My band, Other Faces, started in 2000 while most of us were still in high school and the subsequent five years have been spent growing up a bit and searching for new sounds. We started with a Cure-ish sound, then grew tired of that and made "post rock" instrumentals for a while and now we've settled...

Re: The Worst of the Best
To elaborate a bit... You can listen to the bootlegs and Smiley Smile all you want, but there is still only one finished version of SMiLE. There are some shining moments on the bootlegs, but ultimately they're just fragments of what could have been. Your mind fills in the gaps and you build up this ...

Re: Need to Work?
The equipment list is just sad...I kind of feel sorry for this guy. The instrument list in particular is depressing. What the hell is a Horner Aquostic? A Yamaha DJX-II is just not something to be proud of...and I'm just not sure what he means by "Bass Guitar Designed." Did anyone look at the packag...

Just think: You'll be able to charge more for analog recording because not only will it be "warm", "punchy", and "vintage"...it will be rare.

Re: Sorry...
I think it would be beneficial to spend as much time as you can recording, rather than worrying about the format. If you can learn how to use your ears and get great sounds out of a cassette four track or 1/2" 16 track you'll be in a better position when you do move to a higher fidelity format. Tape...

I guess just look at any text on the things and turn them to make the text readable. If you want to experiment with placement you can surely do so, but this way you at least know they're placed the way they're intended. NS-10s are obviously meant to be horizontal, and others are vertical. I guess ul...

Re: say, what???
My dad has a bunch of mics like these in the basement. I never realized I could be making money off of their cred in the world of DIY recording magazines. All I'd need to do is put some C37 on 'em and I'd be set for life.

Re: disadvantages of hard disk recording?
With digital I looked at the screen more than I listened. I had to remind myself to close my eyes and really listen. I find this to be especially true. If I make an edit, I find I worry much more about it looking seamless on the screen than sounding seamless. With the screen in front of me, I'm wat...

Exactly. I'm running Pro Tools on a 500mHz G3. that alone is pretty amazing. it slows down when you really lay on the plugins, but overall performs well for a five year old computer. On top of that, it was under $400. Mac is not necessarily the expensive way. Get a dual G4 tower and you should still...

Take a look at any of his books of pure words, unaccompanied by music. I dare you to not be entertained on some level.

And one more point. Just because someone sings something into a microphone with a bunch of guitars and shit, doesn't mean it's true. Personally, I don't like hearing peoples opinions unless they want to hear mine -- and they probably don't. So I wish these clowns would get off their high horse ... ...

The great thing about Macs in regards to viruses is you don't have to worry about them at all. You don't have to waste your time loading a cd image of your hard drive or downloading pop up blockers or virus scanners or anything of the sort. That 20 minutes you spend restoring your computer with Nort...
