Re: it was 24 years ago today
So in other words any song with lyrics which express an opinion is irrelevant because you have opinions too? I'm not trying to jump to conclusions about your views here, but that's seriously the logic you used in your statement. The point of lyrics is always some kind of expression and whoever is si...

Re: it was 24 years ago today
Dennis Leary is funny but that comment seems more like tapping into the veiled racism of his fans than anything else. Oh fuck that PC shit. Yoko sucked. Her performance art was sophomoric and her music is unfucking listenable. John proved that love is not only blind, but fucking tone deaf as well. ...

Re: what's that sound on the Smiths' "Ask"?
You know the one, the "bwhoobwabhwabhwoobhwoobwhoobhowoo" thing that comes in around 1:00. It sounds kind of like maybe a vocoded keyboard/voice thing being gated by a rythm guitar? That's the guitarist's corduroy pants http://www.worldclothing.net/vintage/pants/L.L.W.%20CORDUROY%20PANTS-b.jpg You ...

Who else wants to go out and start a pretentious post-rock band under the name "I The Prostitute, Shall Not Hide..."?

Re: Mono versions of Beatles material on CD?
All of the official cd releases are in stereo, but if you do some searching you'll find plenty of unoffical copies. As with any unofficial release I'm sure they vary in quality, but they are out there. I suggest seeking out the mono Sgt. Pepper. There are some really drastic and interesting differen...

Re: brian wilson's smile on vinyl!
Brian's performance in Madison was great last October. I think he must have had a lot of on and off days over the course of the tour. I'm lucky I caught him on a good night. He actually sounded better live than he did on the record or on any of the recent tv appearances. I was pleasantly surprised.

Kimball Swinger Organ, anybody?
I just bought a Kimbal Swinger 700 organ, but couldn't find any info about it through google-searching. Do any of you have any experience with these? It has a built in Leslie cabinet which is quite awesome...I'm wondering if there is some way to patch external sources through it. The organ only cost...

Re: Albums to get for Christmas
don't get me wrong, i love "pet sounds", but i think brian's stuff was much higher fi before he went multitrack. this can probably be attributed to the fact that he did a lot of bouncing on that record. he would record four tracks of the instrumental section, a huge wrecking crew instrumental at th...

Re: Beautiful Dreamer
It was recorded into Pro Tools, which makes perfect sense for SMiLE. with Brian Wilson's modular style, it is certainly much easier to cut and paste an album together on a computer screen than on a splicing block. there's also a good article in Sound on Sound. I'm not sure if it's the most recent is...

Re: The Beatles - The Capital Albums
if you have the thirteen british albums, and past masters one and two, you already have every piece of music that has been officially released during the beatles career. while this is tempting to me since I'm kind of a completist about my beatles collection, I must keep telling myself it's a bad ide...

Re: first post, and a song of mine
This is very interesting and well done--I would listen to this. On the critical side (and take it with a grain of salt as it's from a singer) the male vocals sound a little weak Hey! That's my voice you're talking about, jerk! Just kidding, it's ok. I didn't spend as much time getting it right as I...
