WTF is this awesome delay unit Neko Case has?!?

Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbjnS_RTj_o About 5:50 in, there's a quick shot of this crazy-assed delay thingy, then the lovely Ms. Case briefly discusses wiggling the arm while it's running to get a crazy wobbel out of it, and there's a very short snippet of this...what kind of del...

Working on it! Can't seem to find any of the shitty recordings it was on from before, and unpacking gear into my way-too-small temp space now... Actually, I think it's on a couple of half-finished things at www.myspace.com/wellsareme. The nylon-string guitar/junkmetal cello piece has ghetto plate al...

Violin is the one instrument that makes me pine for a ribbon mic! Rumor has it all the strings on 'Eleanor Rigby' were recorded with sm57's. I am in a band with an incredible violinist, and I have recorded her with M49's, Blue mouses's, U47's, U67's, U87's, M269's, SM81's, Earthworks TC30's, Stapes...

Hate to admit it, but the Classic Vibe pinebody Tele pretty much kicks ass. It's ridiculously good, and $300. Better than any Am Std I've played in the last dozen or so years. I've played all of this series several times, and they seem pretty amazing, all things considered. I was least impressed wit...

Yep. The one time I got to see Howe, he sat on the edge of the stage, with the piano in front of him on the floor. At one point, he was clanging on the piano with his feet while still playing guitar with his hands, improvising a ditty about the fan blowing onstage..."fan's got a wobble in it..." Awe...

Oh, I'm sure by and large it's the genius of Howe that's responsible for most of it! I sometimes wonder if some of it isn't just sheer volume as well? The whole prepared/not prepared piano thing has me scratching my head as well. Does Howe just will these sounds out of stuff? It's pretty amazing. Se...

Howe Gelb/Giant Sand/Arizona Amp and Alternator guitar sound

Anybody know much about what the hell Howe uses to get some of these sounds? When I saw him live, a few years ago, he played solo guitar and piano, and I don't recall having seen any other gear than a Gretsch Rancher, which Howe told the soundguy to make "loud as fuck"... Anyway, I know Mr. Gelb mak...

Has Ribot ever done anything that wasn't amazing? Definitely one of the best films I saw this year (I dunno when it came out, though) was Le Corde Perdue, the Ribot doc...damn! Hmmm...this year, I've been catching up a lot on things I should've bought last year. Some things I've enjoyed this year, w...

Fender oilcan reverb? Awesome...just picked up a '69 Multi-Echo recently ( I think maybe the same fixed two-speed unit you refer to?) that supposedly worked, and very quickly found myself learning to rebuild the oilcan assembly...good times. Anyway, semi-relatedly, anybody have any ideas on using th...
