Thanks both. Good idea about the gate. When I see stuff like "+5v" the fact that I'm not a recording 'engineer' really shines! I'm guessing there's a correlation between signal amplitude and voltage but it's a bit of a black hole for me. I just know, anecdotally, that sometimes folks try to hook up ...

Not to put you off but I'm not sure anyone can answer your question (or answer it well anyway) without hearing the songs.

Maybe try listening through your songs and consider what would help to get your point across, what needs to be accented or beefed up. Or post some of your recordings here.

Definitely anything proprietary like those weird din external hard drive connectors mentioned above. Actually, most power connectors piss me off. Why soooo many types/sizes? I can't be the only one with a massive box chock full of 'might need this on day' power adapters. To a lesser extent, USB is g...

Re: Logic 8 Workflows

1. Consider using the "fade tool" for quick fade outs, instead of jumping right to automation. If you hit "escape" and type a Zero, you'll have the fade tool without having to use the buttons at the top of the screen. The fade tool lets you drag a fade over the audio clip, creating fade-ins / fade-...

You could use them to keep your new Mac Mini off of the internet (perhaps other than OS updates). Big ass thumb drives are dirt cheap for all of your sneakernetting needs.

Kick mic to CV for analog triggery

I'd like to put a mic or trigger or something inside of our drummer's kick drum and have that trigger the arpeggiator on my sh-101. The SH-101 wants (I'm pretty sure) a squarewave clock pulse of +5v. I was thinking of stuffing a hot mic (boundary perhaps) in the kick and hooking it up to something w...

Lots of good iPad audio interface recommendations here: http://forum.audiob.us/discussion/490/recommend-an-interface Some interfaces/midi keyboards will work fine without a powered hub. Can be a bit of a crap shoot though. I see the akai MPK25 on craigslist and used gear shops for $75-$125. But yeah...

FedEx, USPS, whichever way you want.
Was thinking the same. I mean, if you're going to do this often, finding a nerdy solution could be worth the time. Otherwise, save everyone some hassle and keep the post office in business.

Apparently Sound Forge Audio Studio will run on 8. http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/aud ... o/techspec

You could also use Audacity to create the Audio and something free like iTunes to burn the CD. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/bu ... _a_cd.html

Stand alone Audio + MIDI multitrack unit?

Hi Tapeop, long time no type. Does this exist? I want a freestanding box that will allow me to record/edit audio and MIDI. Like a Boss BR along with a MIDI sequencer. I realize I could sync two separate boxes together but I'm wondering if there's ever been an all-in-one that I just can't find. I don...

if you have one, pretty much all smartphones have free polyphonic synth apps.
