Re: advice needed on drum mic placement and so forth
I was going to post and suggest the Glyn Johns method that I recently started using and absolutely love, but upon rereading your post it sounds like you are almost there. The only difference it seems is that instead of placing the mic facing down at the ride and floor tom, set it about 4 - 6 inches ...

Re: What's your favorite drum kit?
I have to agree, Gretsch. They have it all, the name, the history and the sound. I have early 60's Gretsch snare, 13 tom and 16 floor tom that I love, all white marine pearl. I am currently using a 24" Ludwig bass drum with the kit for louder rock. I think Bill Stewart has the best sounding jazz kit...

Re: MXL 990's as Overheads?
Thanks! Yeah I could definitely download those. I was a little pressed for time (crappy dial up) but I did get Consent downloaded and listened too. Good job, really good track. Can you tell me what type of cymbals those were? I am using mostly dark K's so I think that might be a good combo for these...

MXL 990's as Overheads?
Anyone have experience with these as drum OH's? Especially loud rock? I keep reading post where people say things like, "I bet these would work great as Drum OH's" but I can't find any info or reviews where someone has used them as overheads. (Actually, I take that back, on one thread there are song...

Re: Steely Dan
"Those guys are assholes." That's why I love em. I can't believe all the resentment, wow. I would have never guessed it on this my one and only forum I actually respect on the internet. Hey to each his own, but I love the fucked up lyrics wrapped up in slick poppy songs. "Janie Runaway" off of Two a...

Re: Pro Tools Vs Nuendo?
I have been struggling with this myself. I have Nuendo and love it, fast flexible and very intuitive to use, IMHO. However, I am mainly using it in my project studio working on my bands, some friends bands and a few smaller paying projects. I would like to branch out and start working on more projec...

Re: Trail of Dead Drum Sound, any tips?
Thanks for the advice everyone. I figured as much with the compression and I have gotten decent results so far using it in that way but I think up to now what has been missing is tracking in a larger room. My band is moving into a huge rehearsal space in a few weeks so that should soon be remedied a...

Trail of Dead Drum Sound, any tips?
I am a drummer who has been recording for a while at home doing projects for my band and a few other local artists. I am starting to work on some solo stuff on the side and I am looking to get some more experimental/organic sounds from my kit as opposed to the very individually mic'd rock sound I ha...

Re: Headphone mix in Cubase SX...How?
Hey, If you are using Cubase SX 2, this shouldn't be that hard. I do this in Nuendo and it should be the same. 1. Create an FX track with no effects on it (or effects if you want them in your phones). 2. Set the FX tracks output to a second bus = the headphone output. 3. Activate a send to the FX tr...
