Re: Need a good cassette deck recommendation
Everybody else's recomendations suck: Denon 790-R is an amazing machine. It can hit frequencies up to 22 khz, which is higher than a CD. Its not super well known, so on ebay, you can get for about 100-150 bucks, even though it retailed for about 900 just a few years ago. 3 head, auto cal, and manual...

Re: Robert Johnson
Aluminum discs!!! Is an aluminum disc recorder still called a lathe??? I don't see how it hurts me at all as a producer to learn about how old recordings were made. Robert Johnson's recordings sound so much better to me than the big gigantic recordings they are doing today, even of rootsy sounding s...

Old Ribbon Mics vs New Ribbon Mics
I've got a budget of about a grand. I'm thinking of picking up a ribbon mic. How do the new ones compare with the old ones. Particularly with the RCA's, and the recent reissues of those. What is going to be the difference between the 77 and the 44 series?

Re: Applecare- Worth It or Ripoff?
I think Applecare is worth it, but be aware, if you use 3rd party (ie, less expensive than Apple's) RAM, Apple will probably blame any problems on the RAM first, since it isn't covered by Applecare. I got Applecare for my G5 desktop when I got it, and added a gig of non-apple RAM from Other World C...

Re: Les Paul built a lathe out of junk yard parts!!!
Well, he is still alive. He plays every Monday night at the Iridium on Broadway and 51st in Manhatten. He is 88.
Doesn't any one have any more info on what he did to build a studio?

Re: Cocktail Drums
Because the kick part of the drum is aimed directly at the floor, you get an automatic 180? phase reversal before the sound reaches your ears. Hadn't thought much about that. So the surface I play over is really going to effect the punch I get out it. I am really also thinking about neat things to ...

Re: Les Paul built a lathe out of junk yard parts!!!
You would think so, but the turne table was taken out of a junked car, so says the back of my record.
Geez, maybe I should just stop by and ask him.

Les Paul built a lathe out of junk yard parts!!!
Reall, you can build your own lathe??? Maybe I'm missing part of the story, but I'm under the impression he just went and did it. As a result, his recordings were of lower fidelity. That and he did so much bouncing. But frankly I would be quite happy with the sound he got. Am I totally wrong??? Woul...

Re: Cocktail Drums
Thank you for all this info. I've looked a bit on Yamaha's website. I don't know who or how to contact them about getting a green club jordan with wooden hoops. I think maybe my best option would be to get a nice custom shell with a green satin skin and wooden rims. Then, I could order a few parts f...

Re: where is there SPACE in NEw York for a Live/Work studio?
Yeah, thanks every one. Espec. Ayan. Yeah, all these places people are saying are cheap are no longer cheap. I've looked a bit at red hook too, which some people said would be real cheap on account that there is no train. But even that is expensive. I've looked on craigs list, but craigs list is bul...

Re: Line 6
The line 6's in my experience have just been the hot new toys. They are fun, but really are not applicable in situations where some one is going to be listening criticly.
