I've got a budget of about a grand. I'm thinking of picking up a ribbon mic. How do the new ones compare with the old ones. Particularly with the RCA's, and the recent reissues of those. What is going to be the difference between the 77 and the 44 series?

I think Applecare is worth it, but be aware, if you use 3rd party (ie, less expensive than Apple's) RAM, Apple will probably blame any problems on the RAM first, since it isn't covered by Applecare.
