Preamps, different types of the same..

Most people would be like 'id rather spend the same $ on a bunch of different preamps for their color' and this is a valid point. but, in the past people recorded on boards with usually all the same pres, right? The mixes sounded pretty smooth. I guess my point is do you really find yourself mixing ...

Re: Ludwig Drums

Im not a fan of newer ludwig drumsets, but their snares are simply 'the' snare drums. Ludwig black beauties and supraphonics have been the standard for over 80 years. cant argue with that.

Re: What's the difference:"talent" vs. "chari

I dont know. I dont think anyone is 'born' with anything. some people just have an amazing ability to learn really quickly. To me that is what real talent is, to pick up on something really quickly and efficiently. My friend got a 1600 on the SAT, finished school with a 100 average and also played l...

Re: Upgrading overheads?

an obnoxious bump in the 8khz region. I checked the spec sheets. the mics work great on acoustic guitars but the cymbals have always been on the harsher side.

Upgrading overheads?

Just a thought, I use Marshall MXL 603s for drum overheads..but if I was to step up to a nicer pair or whatevers what would you recommend? Its hard to find topics on the type of mics used as overheads. 451s still 'standard'?

Simple question about ribbon mics

Simple question: is a ribbon mic classified as a dynamic microphone? some models are 'dyanmic ribbon'. while others are just 'ribbon'.

Re: Big Muff keeps killing signal.

distortion isnt compression. but it gives that same 'effect'. if you have the same volume but one with distortion/heavy harmonics and one clean, the one with the dist. will sound way louder, yet being at the same volume. This is where the whole idea of 'many tracks of mild overdrive' vs. 'one heavy ...
