Recommend Me Some Room Tuning Software

Looking for something to help me nail down and fix some sonic gremlins in my new space. My biggest issue is bass (as expected). It's uneven depending on where I'm sitting. Certain notes are boomy others weak.

What's a decent and affordable program for room analysis?

Re: Tascam 388 Stereo Inputs - Drum Machine

I haven't used DM1. Just looked at the specs and layout. I like funkbox because it's super quick and easy to get something happening. For me drum machines are usually a placeholder when I'm writing. They almost always get replaced by real drums. Funkbox usually egts me where I need to be pretty quic...

Re: Tascam 388 Stereo Inputs - Drum Machine

ps - try FunkBox for IOS if you haven’t already. It’s my go to virtual drum machine. Looks like the interface of the DM1 is quite similar. FunkBox has samples of all the classic machines and sounds great. Super easy to use and very tweakable. I just run the headphone out of my iPad to a mono line in...

Re: Tascam 388 Stereo Inputs - Drum Machine

A Y cable will do it. Probably the pedal too but maybe with some added good or bad artifacts. The bigger question is do you really want a stereo drum track? Also, is the sound coming from the drum machine truly stereo? Just because it’s coming from a stereo jack doesn’t mean that the source is actua...

Re: Reverse reverb on Tascam 244

If the track layout is 1-4 (not always so check the manual) then you can subtract the current track number from 5 to know what track it will end up on when reversed. Not a big deal on 4 track but the same math can be helpful with higher track counts. On an 8 track you subtract the current track numb...

Re: What musical thang didja work on today/night?

Much better today. Mixing a record that I've been engineering for a guitar quartet. Classical, Dobro, electric and p-bass. I set them up in a circle and we tracked everything live over a few sessions. No headphones, no punch ins and the only overdubs are a few solos and egg shaker. We picked the bes...

Re: What musical thang didja work on today/night?

Worked on guitar and vocal overdubs for a project that started two years ago. Opening the files I realized that we last worked on it exactly one year ago. I have no great faith that it will ever be finished. More likely it’ll be worked on yearly forever. It won’t get better, just different. The clie...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Just got my “new” Western Electric 633a in the mail. For an 80 odd year old mic it’s flawless. The paint is perfect. The screws are shiny with no indication that a screw driver has ever touched them. And it works! Amazing. Just hung it over the drums but I’ll have to wait till tomorrow to give it a ...

Re: Tascam 388 effects straight to tape tracks

You could use the inserts however and this would record. How would I do this? Plug your mic into a channel. Plug a trs y cable (aka an insert cable) into the insert point on that channel. Plug your effect into the other ends of the insert cable. It’ll put the effect in line after the preamp stage (...

Re: Replacement Wall Wart For Golden Age Preamp?

It's probably more money than you want to spend but Golden Age makes a half rack power supply that will power 4 units. It's a vast improvement over the wall wart and totally worth it if you've got a few units.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Altec 633 salt shaker mic. I have one already but it's got a damaged capsule and has nothing below 800hz. It's a great effect mic or a treble mic paired with something full range. Otherwise not so useful.
The new one looks untouched. Hopefully it sounds the same. We'll see once it arrives.

Re: Orban 111b

Gotta love a good spring reverb. I was working out of town this weekend and didn’t have access to my regular hardware or go to plug ins. Had to rough in some mixes at the end of the session and sended up using the in house Tapco stereo spring in place of my usual plate impulse response. Damn it soun...

Re: how would you record a six piece doo wop group?

With 8 tracks I’d do a stereo pair for the whole group and then some spot mics for whatever needs some extra juice.

Re: Too much equipment. Trim down?

Im in the same boat. Mostly because my studio is now a converted one car garage and space is at a serious premium. It's solved my weird, vintage keyboard addiction. There isn't space for anything now unless something else goes.
I still lust but it's mostly under control.
