Bass management does start before hitting record though. Sometimes on faster tempo stuff the kick gets to sit lowest (65 to 80hz) with the bass just above it in frequency focus, but what gets me really excited is getting the bass dancing around really low and the kick focused just above it. All this...

I think it sounds really, really good (my wife loves it). The effects on the ac gtr are subtle and organic. Lovely.

My relationships to mentors were never formal arrangements, they're more like certain gigs where I learned and made exponential leaps not only technically, but also (and more importantly) in process and serving the gig. When I left college to pursue this full-time in 1984, there were very few places...

Tune before putting a capo on, but check tuning after the capo is on. Please note that once the capo is on adjusting the tuners may make changes not appear right away, with the string suddenly moving in the direction you are going.

Sounds cool. The first instrument (bass?, on the right) sounds out of phase in the left channel (room mic or bleed?). The shaker more right would be cool, but it does sound nice... and live...

It really does depend on your target client base. Where do they record now and what amenities are provided? I'm not saying use that as your base design, just a reference point to either follow or deviate from as you develop a vision. If you are doing corporate or industrial stuff, a full kitchen sho...

Maybe Marc hitting his head at your studio is what gave him some sort of mistrust of vocal microphones... ;) Aw, c'mon, you can't pin that on me! I suspect Marc was a suspicious dude long before I got to him. I've done a couple of records with his brother Greg, Marc would sit in, and they both are ...

I was told once by a reliable source that Peter Gabriel banned all Sennheiser 421 mics from his stage and studio because of the clip.
