Re: Are Yamaha NS10s worth any money?
I'd assume so. I sold mine here in like 2 hours shortly after the had stopped production.

Re: Best vocal mic under 2K?
I got the WA 67 a week ago. Very solid piece. I'm currently on week 4 of six weeks of my left hand in a splint for a torn ligament and fracture so typing is kinda hard. I don't have a lot of mics at home for a proper shootout but I did compare it to my AT4060. I'm not that into the traditional shoo...

Re: Differences in monitoring: mix rooms vs mastering suites
Good insights, all around, (...even vvv! ) I guess this all started because of the differences in my old room vs new room. My old room (a heavily dampened Cape Cod house attic, knee-walls and a 7' ceiling) seemed to give my Hafler TRM-8's an apparent bass-extension that the new room doesn't....

Re: Acoustic absorption for desk surfaces
How about a modified rubber floor mat that you could cut to fit all the surfaces? Good idea, but do you think rubber would be absorbent enough? My Be Quiet PC case has got some sort of acoustic padding on the inside panels, sort of like this but higher quality: https://www.newegg.com/silverstone-sf...

Re: bass drum mic - front or back?
I love those Trions! I actually saw a review compared 'em to Royer. I have one, it's on amps, switch it out with a Shiny Box 23L for room or put the Trion 6" from the amp. I have a older CAD tube mic, also, and it's sweet on vocals and room - the one with the lolli and the rubberized finish - 6000?...

Re: Differences in monitoring: mix rooms vs mastering suites
Part of the difference is in the room and gear in it. A mastering room doesn't have as much stuff in it, it doesn't need as much stuff in it. Then there's the job, it's to make all the tracks work together and to "triple check" frequency balance and possible issues. So A set of big, full range, deta...

Re: How loud do you listen?
I'm using a Drawmer monitor controller that has a small button to switch to a preset level. I calibrated it tonight for 62-65 dB. What's cool about it is no matter where the volume knob is, if I hit the button it goes to 62-65 dB. That is a really cool feature. Can you set more than one different p...

Re: How loud do you listen?
I spend most of my time in the 70ish dB range. I always check around 85db and do a lot of listening at lower volumes as well. I'll also sometimes make it way louder and listen for outside the control room, so it's not hitting me at 90+db even if it's playing that loud at mix position. The only peopl...

Re: bass drum mic - front or back?
Also as a side note, can everyone who's using the term "woofy" try and define it for me. I used to have a couple regular clients who used the term frequently when critiquing a mix, and I'm not sure I totally know what they mean. Just that we got it to go away. For me, woofy is too much low and low ...

Re: bass drum mic - front or back?
I prefer inside and front, or just front. I've done the batter head thing, and sometimes it's OK, but I don't usually like what happens in with the snare bleed. Even though there can be a lot of bleed in the front mics, I often prefer the sound of that bleed compared to bleed on a batter side mic. O...

Re: Studio Embarrassments
Mine are almost all from my early tape days and usually a result of not having good notes. Losing a great take because I forgot to arm the tracks. Punching in on the wrongs track. Doing a bunch of great overdubs on the wrong take. Accidentally recording over the second half of a song because the co...
