Re: It's a Neve - but what was it made for?
I remember seeing one of those for sale a few years ago. I wondered if the phone was linked directly to support, or maybe right to Rupert's office...

Re: In Search of a Snare!
I have an old Slingerland mahogany snare that is very similar to the Leedy you linked to. It's definitely not a crisp drum. It's more of a round thuddy tone. Older (wood) drums tend to have rounder barring edges then more modern drums. This results in much less crack than a modern drum. Leedy, Sling...

Re: Letting It Bleed? (a little)
If you decide to use a speaker (or two) just put the minimum of instruments in that mix. Just a bit of the main chordal instrument, and maybe a tad bass, and some rhythm inst. if needed.
Then of course run it as softly as you can get away with. And work with the nulls of the mics.

Search Recording.org or PSW for the "Recorderman Overheads." it's the way to go!

Re: tape tape
They forgot to send my tape recently. Otherwise I''ve had very little trouble. Bill always calls back. He's also replaced some bad tape for me.

Re: 3M 56 16 Track 2" Recorder
If it's the one that's popped up on eBay a few times I'd stay away. The machines he's had up there look pretty rough to me. Email me, I've got a 3M M79 that's been tweaked out...

I was able to get my JH24 out of one van and into another with I think 4-5 people. Four of us got it out and into the studio.

Re: can i lift a studer a-80 24 track with two friends?
I'd suggest a minimum of six. Six strong guys. If you and your friends are skinny musician types like me and my friends, eight. A80s are big machines, and bulky too. You'd probably be best to find out if it can be transported on its back or sides. That will make getting it in the truck easier. Go to...

Re: Albums you missed the boat on
I get most things late. It's more rare for me to have the new cool thing. Hell I bought a Bobby Gentry collection this weekend. She recorded her last record in 1974.

Re: Silly client expressions
My other favorite came recently while working with Caldo71. We tracked a bit of drums for the drummer to come in and hear the results. The drummer comes in and listens. He says, "I?d like you to do something with the bass drum." I said, "fine, what kind of sound are you looking for?" His answer: "I...
