My memory is shoddy regarding the ms16. Is there no low frequency eq adjustment on the ms16? After you calibrate and align your machine, is there a 3db dip at 120hz or does it drop off steadily below 120hz? When I had an ATR60 (similar machine) I would frequently run it at 30ips. I would try checking how it responds with fresh tape. What does the wear pattern on the heads look like? perhaps it's time for a relap and a tension/tape path adjustment.

perhaps the ensoniq dp/2 or dp/4. then get a stereo spring reverb unit. Vestafire made some spring reverbs that are particularly nice.

Tried to make out what bus you had engaged on the channel you were testing, but couldn't tell from the video. I assume you have bus 1-2 engaged and the pan pot turned to the leftmost position. Is that the case? Why not engage all the bus selectors on channel 1 and put the pan pot in the middle in or...

If the dbx is engaged but the indicator lights do not come on, it is likely that a fuse needs to be replaced. Also, that could be the reason your transport controls aren't working.

I hopped on the phone and started calling libraries and schools. It took a few hours, but I found a library happy to give away 4 very nice card catalogs.

We have old library card catalogs at our place for microphone storage. They work really well. Of course we still catalog with Dewey rather than LOC.
