A couple hundred hours before I trust a new set of speakers - Especially with "natural" components (paper cones, silk domed tweeters, etc.). Rubber surrounds, etc. I made a "break in" disc for just that purpose. Slow and fast sweeps, pink & white bursts at various levels some with swept bandpass fil...

Anything with a S/PDIF input. Could be a card, could be USB, FW, etc. Granted - Whatever it is will probably have its own converters, but by using the S/PDIF in, you're effectively bypassing them.

Forget presets. They're there to show what the plug can do. Basically worthless otherwise.

There are about 900 units available. Take your pick. Almost anything that says "MOTU" on it, RME, Apogee, M-Audio, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.

You'll find a lot more FireWire than USB that will handle the task...

It's an effects box that enhances harmonics, adds harmonics, distorts a signal with more harmonics, makes things sound brighter, livelier, brings out detail, etc. It excites a signal . kinda does the same thing?
Distorts the high end and tubs out the lows?

EQ things the way you want and you won't feel the need for an "exciter" type option.

Ryan might use one. He has one in the rack. I'd assume it's not a 'go to' thing...

I wouldn't do it on a bet.

Maybe if I were going from a tape deck in "reasonable repair" on to a deck in "somewhat reasonable repair" and I needed something to distort the hell out of - er, I mean "add clarity" to the high end...

But otherwise, not a chance.
