Re: Guitar repair in NYC

Guitar Bar is great, Hoboken Vintage is right next door, 2 blocks from PATH, on 1st and garden. Also, the guy I go to is good too, www.frettech.com, although not in NYC, but not too far either. Don't try to do it yourself though- when those repairs are done right, the neck will be stronger than when...

Re: Recording Drums with Only 2 Mics

CDB, Fellboyz is great! Thanks for pointing me to that one. I love the recording with one mic, that sounds amazing. Keep up the great work.

Re: What's the most REALISTIC keyboard/sampler out there?

I laughed immediately at the "Realistic Keyboard." Thanks for starting the morning right! As far as helping wiht this thread, perhaps a laptop and a controller keyboard? Reason has some great sounds (especially with the new electromechanical refill), and I read somewhere abotu a live interface for r...

Re: Best snare hit ever?

Adding one more- The end of "the Boxer" Simon and Garfunkel- that snare is amazing, probably also Hal Blaine. I guess that's his thing! When the string bass or bass trombone, whatever it is, comes in at the end, that takes it up another notch. I heard it this morning on the radio and I always though...

Re: Favorite Christmas albums (yeah it's early)

Phil Spector, Beach Boys, and John Denver and the Muppets. Don't forget the N-Sync album too (just kidding- that should ahve staying power!). Actually, even though I can't stand her voice, I really like the Mariah Carey "All I want for Christmas is You." and "Do they Know it's Christmas" makes me re...

Re: Best snare hit ever?

Don't forget that Wouldn't it Be Nice and Be My Baby are both the same drummer (Hal Blaine). As far as fills, you can't beat Mack the Knife- I love the way it distorts, and Fly me to the Moon is awesome too. Born in the USA is perhaps the most mismatched snare sound ever. I beleieve Born to Run was ...

Re: Stereo vs. Mono "Pet Sounds"

Read the book "The making of Pet Sounds" also. Really good. Showtime has a movie on this Tues., Beautiful Dreamer, the making of Smile. I don't have showtime, but a friend is going to tape it for me. The best thing about Pet SOunds, though, is no matter what the sound qualty, mono, stero, etc., it's...

Re: Anyone had a short run dup done by musicians friend?

A few people I know have used Park SLope CD and were very happy, with both the prices and service. I believe it's parkslopecd.com . Hope that helps (I have no affiliation with them at all, just so you know)

I use a 1x15 bass cab into a DI too, works great. You just have to watch the phase with the other kick mic.

Re: Anyone used a "Yamaha Sub Kick"?

I'm a bassist, so I've just been using bass cabinets infront of the kick, works great. I used a 1-15 GK bass cab last week and it's fat. I just reversed the phase from the inside kick mic and it has some good bottom end.
