Regular pink fiberglass works. However when comparing between different fiberglass configurations, the adsorption is roughly proportional to the total mass of material. The fluffy pink stuff isn't very dense, so you need a bunch of it. By the time you purchase enough, it will probably cost as much a...

I've recently become interested in what placements other people use for their room mics, particularly when recording drums. I know it comes down to 'whatever sounds best'. I generally end up on the other side of the room, which for the places I record is 10-15' from the mic. I'm usually about 4 to 5...

I don't have first hand experience with this, but I've heard that cheap dimmers are trouble. Good ones, such as Lutron brand don't cause the same issues.

Two things about specifications and testing of pres. Not many pre-amp makers post detailed specifications for their products, but "slew rate" is the spec that relates to how fast a pre is. A higher slew rate indicates that the pre can capture more high frequency transient information. Slew rate numb...

Also, not all X kbps mp3s are created equal -- the encoder you use matters. I'd recommend using LAME. Certainly don't use any program that isn't fairly up to date, as the encoders have improved over the past few years.

I get a call from the karaoke princess who wants a remix with her vocals hotter (cause her grandmother and the pharmacist thought that she needed to be louder...I'm not making that up)...go figure. I informed her that I would love to do a vocal way-the-fuck up mix but I have yet to be paid from the...

I'm impressed, but I also would like more vocals for the first quarter of the song.

On the renter's policies I've looked at there have been rather low caps on claims for electronics. Something like $2000 I believe.

Line them up and try all 4 models that you have. It only takes a minute or two per mic. It is time well spent. Eventually you'll learn the characteristics of your microphones, which will allow you to mentally eliminate some microphone for a given situation. But for now, just try them all. It is a gr...

Re: How to properly mic a guitar speaker?

Does off-axis assume the mic isn't pointing directly at the speaker, but rather at a 30-60* say? Or does off-axis just refer to the fact that the mic isn't facing the center of the speaker? On-axis means the microphone is on, and aligned with, a line coming straight out of the center of the speaker...
