Re: Wiring a monitor as a kick mic.

I would bypass the crossover. The speaker will not pick up high frequencies anyways, due to the size of it's diaphram and the inability for the low energy of higher frequencies to vibrate it at higher revolutions per unit time..

Re: Wiring a monitor as a kick mic.

If you use shielded wire, you solder the shield with the (-) cable lead to the (-) terminal on the speaker.

Re: Common practices with low cuts

Frequencies like 20 or 30 Hz are merely felt, more than heard. When doing the Golden Ears training and 30 Hz was cut or boosted in a song, it was barely noticeable. Like phantom limb syndrome, if that makes any sense. Anyways, low frequencies eat up headroom, since their larger wavelengths demand mo...

Re: Getting a cell phone message out of the phone?

No headphone out on the phone?? I have found a countless number of phone tap devices that suction on to the phone and can pick up the signal. Check for one of those at radioschlack or something.

HDMI Cables

What do you think? Will there be any future utilization for a spec like this in the pro audio industry? Huge bandwidth, greater than 50 foot working distance, and 8 or more channels or 24/192K audio.

Re: Bleeding capacitors

Check out this site, amongst many others that are out there. Supposively, this is a very important step to take prior to probing around electronics, especially amps. Before I resoldered a filter cap on my amp I simply used a digital multimeter to measure the caps, as is explained in the article. Sin...

French Apple Keyboard and Pro Tools

I am wondering if a French-style apple keyboard would be compatible with standard Pro Tools key commands. For instance, I do not see [ ] keys, which are used for zoom and amplitude height in PT. Does Pro Tools respond to the key position on the keyboard or to the actual symbol. The keys that normall...

Re: Mic Pre Question

Well, we know fidelity is the sole purpose of a recording, so continue to reduce the pre level until you hear the most natural replication of the kit. At that point you may be hearing it from the drum room only. That is ok, push record.

Re: Lookin to kill flutter in my dorm room.

A guy that used to tell me a lot about acoustics claimed that a large group of dead baby rabbits makes the best absorber. A rectangle of soft bunnies on a wall will also add that desired avant-garde feel to your recording environment.

Re: Recording Schools Worth It?

I would just recommend that you seriously evaluate your personal situation, in order to make the right decisions in a multitude of areas that will affect your immediate future post-graduation. I went to a recording school (OIART), loved it, and will never regret it. However, I am now over $20,000 in...
