Re: the ONE thing my mentor taught me...

Do it right.

Whatever "it" is. Do it right.

What ever "right" is. Do it.

If it sounds really great REALLY compressed, it IS right. If it sounds great without a comp, dont automatically put one up.

Make every move count.

Re: PreAmps under $1000

I have been digging the Sytek mic pre's (in this price range). If you get them with the burr brown Op amps on every channel, they are nice clean (ish) fast mic pre's and you can get 4 channels in a 1 space rack for around $900 dollars for sure. Probably less. They remind me of the pre's in an MCI or...

Re: Where to get a power supply for my mic pre

www.digikey.com

they will have the right power supply. I have a few from them and they are rock solid. I use them for my console because the old one was crap. I got a few medical grade P.S's from digikey and they rock. you have to wire up the cables, though, but everything is clearly marked.

Re: Schumann Pedals

I think pscottm should do a review. He is much more eloquent than I am, and a better writer, by far. I think He would do these pedals justice in writing. John makes pedals that I, for one, have no idea how to describe the sounds you can get from them. These pedals are all made for making music, not ...

Re: HELP PLEAS!!!

I found that with the timeline lynx it was easier to slave protools to the jh 24 because the capstan code for those is a little jerky, and I would (obviously) lose synch during shuttling, but protools would just hop to the time code location when the tape lifter dropped and we had code again. The ot...

Re: Compressor decision help!

The 160a is the last thing in my vocal chain on half the records I have mixed! Great, super clean, no frills, squish box to hold the main vocal where I want it. I will run it after a nice slow comp to catch stuff the 2254 (or whatever) doesnt even attempt to attenuate.

I like the concept of a dynamic mic with a buffer circuit that keeps the resistance uniform throughout the frequency spectrum at any db level.

I want to get one...

Re: Schumann Pedals

The band John was in was called "poka poka" and I was the drummer for about a year. Johns pedal board was completely nuts, really cool, musical, and somehow... reliable!(sort of..) He always managed to make MUSIC with all these efx, not just zany sounds and feedback, (but he could do that , too). He...

Re: Budget (around $100 or less) condenser mics?

I agree with Jeff robinson, Put the 100 bucks in a cigar box marked "mic I want" and you are 100 dollars closer to a good mic. I swear, it is worth it, although there are some really cool mics that you can get for 60 bucks on ebay, but not a "do it all" mic. Actually, you may get some really cool so...

Re: Favorite oddball microphone?

The RFT CM 7151 is a really cool mic.

Awesome, pre wall going up in berlin neumann. I have one with three capsules (the lollipops) for cardioid,figure8, and omni.

This mic is really cool for a lot of things, and weighs like 20 pounds!

check it out:

Re: Popping from Soundcraft Ghost

This is one of the problems soundcraft should address. The pot for the CRM is a piece of crap. You should have it replaced with a better one. A quick fix is to calibrate your power amp so the dead spot in your volume pot is lower in the throw, meaning... turn down the power amp so you can turn the p...

Re: firewire hard dirve

eeldip, I got all the stuff from Macresq.com except the enclosure, which was a rack shelf and a blank panel I had laying around. It fit two drives on nylon standoffs, and one dual power supply. snazzy. I think it cost me about as much as a lacie 120 gig drive to mount two seagate 80 gig refurbs, and...
