Re: profools has not pitch/vari speed control???!!!!!

I just had to do this yesterday. simply take your clock source from something that is variable, or take smpte from something that is variable. I prefer the clock source method, for ease of operation. If you have an ADAT BRC you can do it with one cable. Set your PT hardware clock source to "external...

Re: Schumann Pedals

We have an old DOD flange (the big brown, metal case one) with a CV follower type mod that is pretty great, and a pitch to CV box with gate for use with the EML electrocomp 101 synths. I am trying to get john to build me a diode limiter box with a squarewave generator and blend control for destroyin...

Re: Schumann Pedals

Wow, Scott, did you take those pictures? They look great. I will post a shot of the "tonebass" pedal in development now. We have been using the prototype on all kinds of things, but on bass, rhodes, and EML 101 synth, I have been loving it. I love the concept of "amount of fuzz" vs. "gain" vs. "driv...

Re: Recording hand claps

I always cut the high end almost all the way off, and compress the crap out of the tracks (2 minimum) with a really fast release. IT pulls some room around the claps but decays fast. I love the sound of destroyed claps, like a 909 clap, but with three real people doing it... Try driving the pre real...

Schumann Pedals

I hope everyone has heard of John's line of pedals! If you listen to the bass on the new radiohead, That is johns pedal. If you listen to sparklehorse: John is all over that record.... We have a few pedals specifically made for us by him that are unbelievable! great quality, super quiet for studio u...

Re: What is it you are doing?

I am a freelance engineer in NYC that has a bunch of gear at Studio G in Brooklyn, so I do lots of projects there.

Click below for resume.

I have been recording things for about 15-16 years, but engineering has been my only job for only about 7-8 years.

Re: ATA vs. SCSI hard drives

ATA drives in a new mac will be way fast enough at 7200rpm. Remember, faster spindle speed= more heat, higher chance of failure. I have gone through a couple of 10,000rpm seagate drives. Now I use a digidrive (firewire)which is 7200rpm and a seagate ATA 7200 drive along with about 12 other firewire ...

Re: OS 9 and/or OS 10

I love OSX, and just got a PT HD3 rig going at the studio in os9, and it shipped with PT6 for OSX. I really want to get this rolling. I am just waiting to hear more stories of woe/ happiness. I think OSX is the best thing to happen to apple since the mac, so I will be swapping soon, and never lookin...

Re: Microphone storage

I saw a great idea at electrical audio: use architect file cabinets, with egg foam in each shelf. The cabinets have shallow (but deep enough) drawers, and they have way more than normal file cabinets. I would like to find one of these. plenty of space for your 9 lomo's and 6 altec coke bottles in th...

Re: the voodoo of burning audio to disc

I have never really tried to figure out what is best, but I have been burning production masters at 1 or 2x and listeners at 12x lately. Simply a leap of faith that the error rate will be lower at 1x.... I think it is because I was second guessing my ears after all the arguements with total freakers...
