Re: Tascam 388 Saga
I dropped a Tascam 234 with a local tech the weekend before this hit. I may not get it back until whenever this is over. I replaced the belts, but it was still wonky. He’s replacing the pinch roller and fed/rev “tires”. And checking my work on the belts. A friend in California is sending a cassette,...

Re: alesis wedge power supply problem?
I have a wedge I haven’t powered up in a year or two. Good to know, and it does seem like maybe you could solder a new pigtail connector to the PCB? How long would that last? Don’t know. But my wedge has run OK for 15+ years.

Re: New Orleans style horn section
I don't know if anyone will remember this thread. But we finally got this released. We tracked trombone and trumpet together in the studio, then overdubbed tenor sax and clarinet later. Fun project. I was worried about meshing the tenor recorded in a seriously dead small space with the trombone/trum...

Re: EV 660
I think I read someone theorizing 660 and 664 were the same mic, with the 660 lacking the 90 degree hinge attachment thingy. But 664 has a fin, and 660 does not, so not sure about the veracity of that.

EV 660
Just ordered one of these. Rebadged University Sound, but the distinctive chrome shape is clearly the same as EV's 660. I can't resist cheap EV dynamics. I'm using more EV dynamics than any other single brand. 408, PL20, 868, pl95, etc. Looks like the 660 doesn't have a lot of low end, down -5 dB at...

Re: Live Off the Floor in a Small Room
Many years ago an engineer stuck a KM88 in a piece of foam in the feet of the bridge of my upright bass. Sounded great. I have no idea what pattern he was using, I was Isolated so it could have been omni but don't know. Sounded great. I've never seen one since.

Re: Cheap marshall clone
OK, I had 20 minutes to record a bit. I had done some vocals earlier, so used the mic sitting in the middle of the room. As a result, the amp is super compressed because it was hitting a Warm WA2A really hard on the way in. https://soundcloud.com/ericagner13/rawk I'm a bass player, not a guitar play...

Re: Cheap marshall clone
A couple of things about this amp - it's not a Marshall Clone - it has the smaller EL84 tubes - and you are going to need to spend about $120 more as the tubes are not included. I think The Marshall Class 5 scratches that Marshall Itch. It's a clone, the builder says, of a TMB Marshall. So you had ...

Re: Cheap marshall clone
Well I bit that bullet. I have no idea how long shipping from China will take.
Ordered a couple of Russian EL84s, considering some russian "Gold Lion" 12ax7s, not going for any vintage tubes on this particular thing.
We'll see. I'll let y'all know next month or around Christmas how it sounds.

Re: Cheap marshall clone
If they were including tubes I'd probably replace them right away anyway, so I don't see that as a big drawback.

I don't have any guitar amps right now over 20 watts. I gig with an 18-20 watt amp, it's fine. I have a Vox AC4 that's really fun to play, but now I'm going to fill it's spot with this: https://reverb.com/item/28685997-assembled-kits-kld-pva18-18w-high-gain-hand-wired-tube-amp-based-on-tmb-18 $240 f...

Re: Cassettes
I've been stockpiling cassettes for a few years, and have enough to last several years at the rate I use them. Then I guess I'll start cannibalizing older recordings, or reach into my trash bag of mixtapes from the 80s/90s to see how those have held up. I'm in a group that mails cassettes around the...

Learning Logic
I use Pro Tools, and I'm pretty comfortable and can get things done. What I have in front of me at the moment, though, is a project tracked at another studio in Logic. Since the engineer there is FAR better than me, we may go back to him for mixing. If we can afford it. Meanwhile, I'm going to do ed...
